Flyers Unable to Overcome Colorado, Lose 6-3
The Philadelphia Flyers had their work cut out for them tonight, squaring up against the Colorado Avalanche in Denver this Friday night. Things didn’t go particularly well for the Orange and Black, as the they got doubled up by the clearly superior team.
THE GOOD
YOUTH MOVEMENT: The Flyers have seen a lot of production from the young talent in the shadow of the trade of longtime captain Claude Giroux. The usual suspects found their way on the scoresheet this evening, despite being thoroughly outmatched by the high powered Colorado offense.
FIGHTIN’ FLYERS: The Flyers found themselves behind quickly in this one, but despite that they never seemed to give up hope. Buzzing all night, and often putting pressure on Avs goaltender Pavel Francouz, but they were never able to overcome the white hot Avalanche offense.
THE BAD
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN: The most notable Avalanche this evening would be Cale Makar by a wide margin. The Nolan Patrick pick has been haunting the team for a good while but seeing Makar completely dismantle the team, it is hard to not to think about what might have been.
HART ATTACKED: The Flyers are truly playing in bizarro world. Somehow, Carter Hart managed to pitch a gem in a game that saw him give up 6 goals. That’s how bad the defense has been as Hart is able to make over 40 saves and still get shelled due to the weak team in front of him.
THE UGLY
LOSING CLINIC: Honestly the Flyers are not a good hockey team facing down one of the best teams in the sport. Expecting a win would have been crazy, and the team certainly didn’t deliver. However despite the overwhelming odds, every Flyer fought to the bitter end, with Farabee even dropping the gloves in garbage time.
The Flyers are sitting fat in a lost season, but the energy they have been showing since the jettison of their captain is reason for at least the smallest bit of hope in this lost season.
