The Philadelphia Flyers will begin the first of a two-game road trip in Ontario as they take on the red-hot Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night in Scotiabank Arena.
After being swept in the season series by the Buffalo Sabres and losing five games in a row, the Flyers hope to at least get a few wins in the final six games of the season. It will be an uphill battle if they plan to do so against the Leafs.
If Philadelphia can manage to keep the Leafs off of the power play, their chances of beating Toronto in their third and final matchup of the season becomes a possibility. But if the Flyers allow them to have even a handful of chances to score on the power play, it could be disastrous for Philadelphia.
Philadelphia Flyers
Record: 23-42-11 (57 pts, 8th in Metro)
Ontario natives Scott Laughton, Morgan Frost, and Owen Tippett are all returning home Tuesday night in their matchup against Toronto. A bit of much-needed extra motivation from these three forwards could go a long way in a 60-minute or more game against one of the best teams in the league.
The Flyers were shutout 3-0 in their last game against the Leafs. Surely wanting to avoid another embarrassing loss, it will be interesting to see how interim head coach Mike Yeo plays around with the lineups before and during the game.
Projected Lineup
Cates – Hayes – Konecny
van Riemsdyk – Laughton – Brink
Farabee – Frost – Tippett
Lindblom – Thompson – MacEwen
Provorov – Sanheim
Zamula – Connauton
Yandle – Attard

Toronto Maple Leafs
Record: 50-20-6 (106 pts, 2nd in Atlantic)
The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the hottest clubs in the entire NHL right now. After coming off of two strong wins over the weekend with a 5-4 overtime road win against the Ottawa Senators, then a 4-2 win at home against the New York Islanders, the Leafs find themselves 8-1-1 in their last 10 games.
With the MVP-caliber season that Auston Matthews is having, consisting so far of both a career and franchise-high in goals with 58 of them and 106 total points, the Leafs are one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup this year.
Surely, a bottom-five team in the league like the Flyers should be a cakewalk for Toronto, even with Matthews unable to play Tuesday due to an nagging injury.
Projected Lineup
Mikheyev – Tavares – Marner
Nylander – Kerfoot – Engvall
Bunting – Kampf – Blackwell
Abruzzese – Spezza – Simmonds
Reilly – Liljegren
Brodie – Holl
Giordano – Lyubushkin
