With both teams going in different directions, the Flyers and Penguins will meet for one final time this season. It’ll be Philadelphia playing host to their Pennsylvania-rivals as they look to avoid the season series sweep.

Two out of the three previous games have gone to overtime as the Flyers are 0-1-2 against the Penguins this season. The only other game to not go to overtime was a 6-2 blowout by Pittsburgh. In their last matchup, it was Philadelphia who had a 4-2 going into the third period.

Two goals in 18 seconds tied things up in the third as the Penguins would go on to win the game 31 seconds into overtime on Kris Letang’s sixth of the season. So despite where the Flyers currently stand, they’ll be looking for revenge.

Philadelphia Flyers

Record: 24-43-11 (59 points, 8th in Metro)

The Flyers, who currently sit in last place in the division, have just four games remaining before they go their separate ways. Motivation is hard to come by right now as there isn’t a lot to play for at this time. But a battle with their in-state rival could be just the thing to get them fired up.

These are still meaningful games for Pittsburgh as they’re looking to hold on to a spot in the division. So while they are in the playoffs, the Flyers could still play spoiler in regards to where they end up when the season comes to an end next weekend.

These games are also important for a lot of the Flyers younger players. Ronnie Attard is getting the chance to once again play alongside Ivan Provorov. Bobby Brink is playing in the top-six. Linus Hogberg recently made his NHL debut and is a part of the top-six on the defensive end. So there are still things at stake for some of the players in the Flyers lineup.

Some will be playing for a contract while others are looking to cement themselves as a part of the roster next season.

Projected Lineup

Laughton – Hayes – Konecny

van Riemsdyk – Farabee – Brink

Cates – Frost – Tippett

Lindblom – Thompson – MacEwen

Provorov – Attard

Hogberg – Sanheim

Yandle – Zamula

Pittsburgh Penguins

Record: 45-23-11 (101 points, 3rd in Metro)

With 101 points, the Penguins have a slight hold on their division spot at the moment. But Washington is close behind with 99 points. The two teams have already finished their season series so Pittsburgh holds their own destiny when it comes to where they finish within the Metro.

They’ll head home after this one to take on the Edmonton Oilers and Columbus Blue Jackets to finish the season. Washington does have a game in hand, though, which could become very important if the Penguins are to lose even just one of their remaining three games. They’ve got Toronto, the Islanders twice and the Rangers to finish out the season.

Pittsburgh will be looking to get every point they can get as they’ve won their last two games by a combined score of 11-2. They’ve been able to score goals with ease. Six different players scored in their 7-2 victory over the Red Wings on Saturday. The Penguins have won the second of a back to back twice this season, losing the other three games in ether overtime or a shootout. They’ll take points any way they can get them.

Projected Lineup

Guentzel – Crosby – Rakell

Zucker – Malkin – Rust

Heinen – Carter – Kapanen

McGinn – Bluger – Rodrigues

Dumoulin – Letang

Matheson – Ruhwedel
