The End is Here: Flyers Lose Game 82 to Sens
Well. That was it. Not a bang, not a whimper, but a sad beaten horse finally succumbing to its wounds. The Philadelphia Flyers met the Ottawa Senators for a completely useless matchup that saw two teams thoroughly beaten down facing off in a game only set to determine draft position.
The Good:
AT LEAST IT IS OVER: The Flyers season has taken years off of the life of all of those that followed it, And for the first time in 82 NHL Games, we are free.
LOSING TO WIN TOMORROW?: At the very least Flyers fans can take a positive away due to the fact that the team accidentally helped themselves long term by losing. Odds to win in the draft lottery improve as the team moves towards a “rebuilding re-tool”
The Bad:
I MEAN, COME ON: The Flyers lost to the Senators. Believe it or not, the Senators are not a well regarded team. And they are pretty objectively better than Philadelphia if tonight was any indication.
SNOOZEFEST: I understand that it may feel like a torture device to actually watch tonight, but I can assure it was actually worse. At least when really good teams beat the breaks off the Flyers, you can marvel at the quality of the opponent. Tonight connected more with a death by a million cuts than a true-blue blowout.
Listen. I’m going to skip the “The Ugly” portion. You don’t want to see it, and frankly, I don’t want to think about it. The Flyers have finally put the stamp on a truly awful season with a pathetic loss to a team perennially stuck in the basement.
The Flyers biggest moment of the season is the draft lottery in May, and the teams will be selected on the 10th when everyone learns just how far forward the Orange and Black are picking.
