The Flyers will welcome in the Panthers for the second of three matchups between the two teams. Philadelphia will be looking to avenge their loss to Florida a little over a week ago. At the time, it was their first loss of the season.
The Flyers will also be looking to find the back of the net again as they were shutout 3-0 by James Reimer and the San Jose Sharks on Sunday. They will have to do so without James van Riemsdyk, who sustained a broken finger after taking a puck to the hand in the first period of said game.
They will welcome back Owen Tippett as well as Rasmus Ristolainen, who will be making his season debut. They will be going with 11 forwards and seven defensemen as Tanner Laczynski had a personal family matter to take care of. He will not be in the lineup.
Philadelphia Flyers
Record: 4-2-0 (8 points, 3rd in Metro)
There will be quite a bit of line juggling for the Flyers this evening. Noah Cates will move back to the wing as Tortorella noted a dip in his game as he tried to adjust to playing center. That will put Scott Laughton back at center, a position he is familiar with. Laughton will also man the net-front position on the power play in JVR’s absence.
Lukas Sedlak, claimed off waivers from Colorado recently, has showed a versatility to play both wing and center. While he’s typically been a fourth line player during most of his career, he will get a chance between two skilled players in Morgan Frost and Wade Allison.
On the backend, Ristolainen will be eased back into the lineup. Tortorella has mentioned that he wants the physical defensemen to not just look for the big hits and get himself out of position. He also talked about the tough decision he will have to face in deciding which defensemen will end up coming out of the lineup.
Carter Hart will be in net for the Flyers and will look to 5-0-0 to start the season. He has been everything the team could’ve asked for and more. He comes in with a 1.75 GAA and a .949 SV%. He has made 30+ saves in all four games he’s played thus far.

Florida Panthers
Record: 4-2-1 (9 points, 2nd in Atlantic)
The Panthers will no doubt be an angry team when they come into the Wells Fargo Center. They are coming off a 4-2 loss to the Blackhawks in which Chicago had a 3-0 after just one period of play. They turned things on in the third period, but by then it was too late.
The Panthers will still be without veteran defenseman Aaron Ekblad, though he wasn’t in the lineup against the Flyers anyway. Matthew coming has been as advertised since coming over from Calgary. He leads the team in goals (4), assists (5), and points (9). Eetu Luostarinen is coming off his first full season with the Panthers and is right behind Tkachuk with three goals and six points.
Eric Staal will be making his season debut for Florida after signing a one-year contract on October 21st. It will be his first game since the 2021 Stanley Cup Final with the Montreal Canadiens.
Projected Lineup
Carter Verhaeghe – Aleksander Barkov – Matthew Tkachuk
Sam Reinhart – Sam Bennett – Rudolfs Balcers
Eetu Luostarinen – Anton Lundell – Colin White
Ryan Lomberg – Eric Staal – Patric Hornqvist
Gustav Forsling – Brandon Montour
Josh Mahura – Radko Gudas
Marc Staal – Matt Kiersted
Sergei Bobrovsky
