In their first game back after the trade deadline, the Flyers downed the Red Wings pretty easily. Now, to start a four game road trip, the team is heading to sunny Florida to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning. The season series is tied at one game each, but Philly won the contest when they were on the road. Perhaps lightning can strike twice.
Philadelphia Flyers
Record: 24-28-11 (59 points, 7th in Metro)
When the teams first faced off in Tampa, the Flyers had dug themselves a 2-0 hole and then were saved by goals from Scott Laughton, James van Riemsdyk, and Noah Cates to pick up a nice come from behind win. Then Tampa came to Philly and stomped on them 4-1.
It would be nice for the Flyers to take home a win against a good team that is struggling right now (more on this below). While the season is pretty much over for Philly, it is nice to see what the team can do. Their win over Detroit was one of the most complete they’ve had all season. It could be a sign of things to come in the future if they can get some offensive help to their lineup.
Flyers Projected Lineup
Joel Farabee — Morgan Frost — Owen Tippett
James van Riemsdyk — Kevin Hayes — Wade Allison
Scott Laughton — Noah Cates — Brendan Lemieux
Nicolas Deslauriers — Tanner Laczynski
Ivan Provorov — Cam York
Travis Sanheim — Rasmus Ristolainen
Nick Seeler — Tony DeAngelo
Justin Braun
Carter Hart
Tampa Bay Lightning
Record: 37-21-5 (79 points, 3rd in Atlantic)
This is a team in BIG trouble. They are going cold at the wrong time. The Bolts have lost five in a row, including a brutal 6-0 curb stomping by Carolina. During this stretch, they have been outscored 30-11. Ouch! That is brutal.
So, this game could go one of two ways. The Bolts could come in and just whoop the Flyers this way and that way and just get all of their frustrations out. It would be an embarrassing game for Philly against a top-tier team. Or, the Lightning come in, try to shake off these losses and try to do too much. That style of play leaves them open to create a lot of turnovers. And if the Flyers can capitalize on them, they could start this four game road trip with a steal of a win.
Lightning Projected Lineup
Steven Stamkos — Brayden Point — Nikita Kucherov
Brandon Hagel — Anthony Cirelli — Alex Killorn
Tanner Jeannot — Nicholas Paul — Ross Colton
Corey Perry — Michael Eyssimont — Pat Maroon
Mikhail Sergachev — Nick Perbix
Ian Cole — Erik Cernak
Haydn Fleury — Zach Bogosian
Andrei Vasilevskiy
