Canada will be heading to the gold-medal game at the Men’s World Championship and Scott Laughton played a bit of a role in that. The Flyers forward assisted on Canada’s second goal and scored the empty netter that sealed their 4-2 victory over Latvia.

Latvia had a 1-0 lead after the first period and a 2-1 lead after the second period. Three straight goals by Canada sent them to their fourth straight gold medal game and seventh in their last eight tournaments.

Artus Silovs had quite the tournament for Latvia. He had helped the team win six straight games coming into the semi-final against Canada. He recently had a 40-save performance as Latvia upset Sweden in the quarterfinals.

For the Flyers forward, Laughton now has two goals and seven points in nine games. He is tied for second on the team in points with Lawson Crouse. An assistant captain for Canada, Laughton assisted on the second tying goal as Jack Quinn scored less than a minute into the third period.

Laughton would score his second goal of the tournament on an empty netter with 42 seconds remaining. As Latvia was threatening in the zone, Laughton would fire a shot from his own blue-line to seal the deal for Canada.

There is a chance that Laughton could meet some of his teammates in the gold-medal game. Cutter Gauthier and Ronnie Attard are currently taking on Germany in their semi-final game. Gauthier has been shining at the tournament and could potentially break the record for most goals scored by a U20 player. In Attard’s case, this is the first time that he is getting to play for his country.

The gold-medal game will take place on Sunday at 1:20 p.m. EST. Canada has punched their ticket, now they just have to wait on their opponent.
