Hockey season is right around the corner. Before the Philadelphia Flyers veterans and roster hopefuls take to the Voorhees ice, it will be the rookies who get things started. 25 players will take part in a camp that will see four practices and two games played in a little under a week before transitioning into the team’s main training camp.

The rookies will first hit the ice for practice on Thurs, Sept 14 before taking on the New York Rangers rookies in a two-game set at the PPL Center on Sept 15 & 16. They will hold a morning skate in Voorhees prior to Friday’s game. After that, they return for three more practices that will take them into main camp on Sept 21. Rookie camp will feature six members of the Flyers 2023 draft class as well as various other prospects in the organization. The team has also invited six players to take part in rookie camp as well.

Forwards

Among the group of forwards highlighting the list, Tyson Foerster and Bobby Brink are amongst those hoping to impress all the way into a full-time NHL roster spot. Elliot Desnoyers could be a dark horse candidate as well. Samu Tuomaala is expected to play for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms this upcoming season after he spent last season in the various leagues in Finland.

For defensemen, Emil Andrae faces an interesting scenario this year. If he doesn’t make the Flyers roster, the rules would have him loaned back to his SHL team. There is a scenario in which the two sides could agree to terminate his contract and allow him to play in the AHL instead. So look for him to be given every chance to make an impact. The Flyers will also get their first look at Helge Grans who came over in the Ivan Provorov trade.

Things are light when it comes to goaltenders. Carson Bjarnason was drafted this past summer and Nolan Maier, whilst having played in the minor league system, is not currently signed to an NHL deal. He is likely at rookie camp to give the team another goaltender.
