As the Philadelphia Flyers embark on a short two-game road trip, they will be looking to keep their winning streak going. Heading to Dallas to take on the Stars, Philadelphia is looking for its third win in a row.

The Flyers lost both games against the Stars last season by a combined scored of 9-2. Five different Stars scored a goal in a 5-1 win on Nov. 13. Joe Pavelski had a point on three of Dallas’ four goals in the 4-1 win on Apr. 6.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers are coming off a strong effort against the Edmonton Oilers. They held Connor McDavid without a shot and limited the Oilers to just a single goal. It was the Cam Atkinson show as he scored two goals to lead the way. Owen Tippett seemed more like himself as he grabbed two assists. And Carter Hart continued his hot start.

Early in the season, Philadelphia has done a good job of establishing a strong forecheck and forcing their opponents to defend more often. Dallas is a heavy team that can attack both on the scoresheet and with their physicality. So the Flyers will need to keep their game plan going in order to find a way behind the Stars defense.

Philadelphia will do that with a slightly different look to them. Sam Ersson will get his first start of the season while Felix Sandstrom will be the backup. This gives Hart the complete night off, something he has earned. Marc Staal, injured in the win against Edmonton, is expected to be out for a few weeks. Rasmus Ristolainen, who has been skating, is not ready to come off injured reserve. That will allow both Emil Andrae and Egor Zamula to play. Morgan Frost, scratched in the team’s last two games, will now miss his third straight.

Owen Tippett – Sean Couturier – Cam Atkinson

Dallas Stars

The Stars have won two of their first three games, two of which have gone to a shootout. They’ve scored six actual goals in those three games. Compare that to the 12 goals the Flyers have scored, though they’ve played one more game. Dallas is destined to break out with the talent they have on their roster.

Ageless wonder Joe Pavelski is leading the way with two goals and three points. The Stars have spread out the scoring as five different players have a goal early in the season. A notable absence from that list is Jason Robertson. Coming off a season in which he scored a career high 46 goals and 109 points, the young forward has just one assist thus far. It’s early in the season, but keeping him off the scoresheet once again will be a key for the Flyers.

Scott Wedgewood will get his first start of the season. The often AHL-bound goaltender is coming off the second most games in his NHL career. Appearing in 21 games last season, Wedgewood posted the second lowest GAA (2.72) and second best SV% (.915) of his career.

Stars Projected Lineup

Jason Robertson – Roope Hintz – Joe Pavelski

Jamie Benn – Wyatt Johnston – Evgenii Dadonov

Mason Marchment – Matt Duchene – Tyler Seguin

Craig Smith — Radek Faksa — Ty Dellandrea

Ryan Suter – Miro Heiskanen

Esa Lindell – Nils Lundkvist

Thomas Harley – Jani Hakanpaa
