This Flyers season has been an interesting one so far. There has been a lot of storylines in this season, and we are just only a dozen or so games into it. There has been storylines about which young players would break camp, goaltending issues, Carter Hart being injured, and the ongoing Morgan Frost saga just to name a few. One of the stories that has kind of gotten lost in the shuffle is how good Joel Farabee has been playing.
After a down year where he was recovering from an injury, there were some that questioned his toughness. He had scored less goals (15 from 17 the year before) but increased in assists (24 from 17) and really kicked it up after the NHL All-Star Game.
Farabee, just like Travis Konecny, has picked up from where he left off. In 13 games so far this season, he has scored six goals with four assists. He is third on the team in points and is just two points behind Konecnt. He is tied for second on the team with Cam Atkinson with goals. He’s taken 30 shots on net, but scored on 20% of those. That’s a pretty good mark of efficiency.
Farabee is almost halfway through his total of goals last year and 1/4 of the way to last year’s point totals. He is on pace, barring injury, of setting career highs in his offensive categories.
If you look at this Flyers team, they are scoring points, but not consistently. The veterans such as Konecny, Laughton, and Atkinson are performing well. In fact, you could argue that the line of Farabee with Scott Laughton and Bobby Brink has been the most consistent on the team. Outside of Brink, the younger players are struggling. Farabee has been one of the few guys who has been performing at a top level every night. He was the only player who could find the back of the net against the Sharks in their last game.
It’s not really clear where this Flyers team is heading as it has been really streaky so far. One thing is for certain, Farabee is going to continue to be a major part moving forward. If the team can follow his lead, maybe the future will be a little bit brighter.
