The Flyers have surprised most with their play early in the season. While looking at the standings after the first month of the season may be too soon, they are hanging around with some of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.

They are far from a finished product, but the Flyers have largely made hockey fun to watch again in Philadelphia. The pieces are there, and they aren't far from a team that can consistently put together strong results.

And there are a few players who have helped them along the way with strong results in the opening month of the season.

Trevor Zegras

Zegras has blossomed back into the player that he was believed to be during his first few years in the NHL. The change of scenery from Anaheim to Philadelphia has worked wonders.

His playmaking is on full display, making passes that most players would dream of being able to do. Zegras has brought another dynamic nature to the Flyers' offense. Most importantly, he’s having fun again while doing it. He has fit in with the locker room seamlessly.

A little over a month into the season, Zegras has a point in 10 of the Flyers' first 13 games. He has three multi-point outings, two of which have seen him finish with three points. Zegras also registered at least a point in eight straight home games to start the season.

Bobby Brink

Now in his third season, Brink has taken another step forward as a player the Flyers can count on. And he’s doing so despite a smaller stature that some believe hinders him at the NHL level.

His confidence has led him to be more physical and not back down from battles against the boards. Brink has always been a player who never gives up. But he’s now using that mentality all over the ice, and it shows.

The offense is showing up as well. After a two-goal outing against the Canadiens, Brink leads the Flyers with five goals. Last season, he didn’t score his fifth goal until his 42nd game. He is also averaging the most time on ice of his young career. He has the trust of Rick Tocchet and is becoming a key piece of the Flyers' future.

Dan Vladar

Goaltending has not been a strong suit of the Flyers in recent years. And many believed that bringing in Dan Vladar wasn't the answer either. He had posted average numbers throughout his career and had never appeared in more than 30 games. He wanted to come to Philadelphia to have a larger role.

And he has impressed. After starting the season alternating games, Vladar has taken over as the primary starter, appearing in eight games to Sam Ersson's four. And he is consistently giving the Flyers a chance to win each night. In his first six games, he gave up two goals or fewer. The Flyers won four of those games. Vladar's last two games have been less than stellar, but he is still among the top goaltenders in the league.

His 2.33 goals against average is eighth amongst all goaltenders, while his .912 save percentage is 15th. Among goaltenders who have played at least 350 minutes, Vladar has given up the second-fewest goals. His more consistent playing time is paying off early in the season and has given the Flyers a reliable option.
