The Philadelphia Flyers are three games into the 2026-27 NHL season and are still searching for their first win. However, there's no need to panic just yet. With an 84-game season, the Flyers are bound to get a win at some point, and hopefully that's sooner rather than later.
Here are three storylines to follow as the Flyers get ready to host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday, Oct. 5.
Offense needs to stay hot
Against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, the Hurricanes scored first, just ten seconds into the game. The Flyers managed to tie the game midway through the first period and secured the lead in the second. Unfortunately, the Hurricanes scored a second goal in the third to tie the game, forcing it into overtime.
The Flyers bounced back from an early Carolina goal, but they couldn't maintain their composure, effectively collapsing in overtime. It might sound simple, but the Flyers just need to keep their offense hot to try and secure their first win.
Forwards need to stay strong
Along with the offense needing to stay hot, the forwards need to pull their weight. Against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday, the only two players to score a goal were both defensemen, Travis Sanheim and Rasmus Ristolainen. It wasn't until Saturday that a forward scored their first goal of the season, Owen Tippett. Matvei Michkov followed shortly after with a goal
The forwards are the ones who need to generate the most offense; at the end of the day, that is their job. As long as the Flyers forwards can pick up where they left off, they'll have a strong offensive showing.
Vladar returns to the crease
The Flyers shared on social media that Dan Vladar is between the pipes tonight. He last played in the Flyers' home opener, where he allowed seven goals to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Vladar was injured during the preseason but has since been cleared, which is why he was in the net for the Flyers' home opener. One bad game should not define Vladar's performance for the entire season. He just needs to get his head back in the game and do all that he can to give the Flyers a fighting chance.
