A Flyers fan's quest to live-stream the entire season

Avid Flyers fan and founder of the media company, Maher Media, Chris Maher, is giving up watching Flyers hockey in person this season. He is going live for every single game, all season long, from a set-up at his home.

Chris Maher, 22, of Northeast Philadelphia, has been a fan of the Flyers for as long as he could remember. In 2023, he founded a Flyers hockey-based media company, known as Maher Media, and has been dedicating his time to growing this company since its inception.

For the upcoming Flyers season, Maher is taking an incredibly deep dive into covering the team, and it comes in the form of live-streaming. The catch, however, is not just one game here and there, but ALL 82 Flyers hockey games for the 2025-2026 campaign. This project is called Bleed Orange All 82.

I had the pleasure and great opportunity to talk to Maher about his idea and the challenging road he has ahead of him

"In December of 2022, I had an idea to watch specific games on stream, but it was the middle of the season, so I picked like 4 games, did them, and thought it was awesome," Maher said about his inspiration for the idea. "So the original idea came from doing a few games, and I fell in love with it. I wanted to do more after that."

Gathering an idea and a starting point for streaming the games over the course of the season was the first hurdle Maher had to leap in making this a reality. He had to find some way of keeping an audience entertained through intermissions and stoppages. So what sort of add-ons and in-stream activities does he have planned?

Well, he wasn't ready to give that away just yet.

"I have one fun idea that I think people will enjoy. I am calling it M&M week. Essentially, from October 25 to October 31, I am going to eat one share-size bag of M&Ms for each goal they let up in their opening 7 games. So it could potentially be 1,200 M&Ms eaten on stream, and the only thing I can have on the stream are M&Ms and water." Maher listed a few other ideas, such as the wing bowl, a hot dog gauntlet, and Flyers bingo.

The planning needs to be precise for all of this to work out for Chris and Maher Media, and he told us a little more about the intricate planning he had to make in his personal life to make this whole idea come to fruition.

"I had to figure out if I could record every stream at my house? Can I be comfortable for 3 hours? Is there a bathroom nearby? I had to get it cleared with my job, and I changed my schedule for it, which was another big thing I had to get cleared. I have graphics and promos that are ready to be put out that I have been working on all summer. I bought a goal light for when they score."

Clearly, we can see from the start how big a commitment this is for Maher. He described what it was like to make one of this caliber and how he felt going into it.

"Excited. Nervous. Nervous because, obviously, how is it going to go? How am I going to feel mentally and physically? I decided that I am going to gamble and bet on myself, and if it doesn't work, I'll do it again next year."

Since we finally touched base on everything involving the streams, I had one last question for Chris Maher. I asked him what happens if the Flyers make the playoffs in the 2025-2026 season. Maher gave an answer that was not too shocking, considering his level of commitment.

"I am streaming the games. I have to. I can't just give up then."
