The Philadelphia Flyers have been in existence since 1967. Since their inception, the Flyers played at the Spectrum, which was the home to plenty of moments in Flyers history. The Flyers would leave the Spectrum in 1996, where they moved to their new arena across the parking lot, first known as the CoreStates Center. After a variety of name changes over the years, the Flyers home arena is now called the Xfinity Mobile Center.

When attending home games, Flyers fans can see plenty of banners hanging above the rink. From retired numbers of franchise legends such as Bernie Parent's No. 1, Bobby Clarke's No. 16, and Eric Lindros' No. 88, to their two Stanley Cup title victories. But over the years, there have been some other banners hanging above inside the Xfinity Mobile Center. What we are looking at is not just the other sports teams that play inside the indoor arenas in Philadelphia. Rather, the musicians who have banners.

Bill Joel

There is no more well-known musician in the Northeast than Billy Joel. "The Piano Man" has been a fixture in the area, where he notably had a residency at Madison Square Garden late in his career. But he has been a frequent visitor to Philadelphia.

Joel holds the distinction of having 48 consecutive sellout performances inside Xfinity Mobile Arena. With this distinction, the arena honored the artist most famous for his hit songs "Piano Man," "Uptown Girl," and "Vienna," with a banner hanging up in the rafters.

Besides the Xfinity Mobile Arena, Joel also performed at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Phillies, for six consecutive soldout shows from 2014 until 2019. Joel also performed at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Eagles, in 2023.

Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam have been considered one of the top rock bands of all-time, and they have frequented Philadelphia a lot during their existence. Pearl Jam has a variety of hits, especially their first two studio albums, Ten and Vs. Their influence and album success made them easy votes for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

Pearl Jam holds the distinction of performing the last ever concert at the Spectrum back in October 2009, before it's demolition the following year. Pearl Jam was honored for selling out 10 concerts. Ironically, those 10 coincided with the name of their debut album.

Bruce Springsteen

The least surpising name to receive a banner at Xfinity Mobile Arena is none other than Bruce Springsteen. The New Jersey native had been a mainstay in Philadelphia, dating back to the existence of the Spectrum. Springsteen had his first ever concert at the Spectrum in 1976. In 1980, Springteen performed and paid tribute to legendary musician John Lennon on the day after his murder. Springsteen performed 42 shows at the arena all the way until the arena's demolition in 2009.

On March 16, 2023, Springsteen received a banner at the then-Wells Fargo Center for holding 67 sellout concerts in Philadelphia. That is more sellout performances than Joel had.

So there you have it, there are three non-Flyers and Philadelphia sports figures to receive banners in the indoor arena. Remembet Joel, Springsteen, and Pearl Jam if you ever come across the question of musical acts to receive banners at Xfinity Mobile Arena in trivia.
