To finish up their three-game road trip, the Flyers will travel to Newark to face the Devils for the first time this season.

Just as they will with the Islanders, Philadelphia will see New Jersey three times in the next two weeks. After Saturday's matchup, the two sides will play a home and home series on Jan. 27 and 29. They will not see each other again until the series finale on Mar. 9.

This marks the third of eight games in which the Flyers will face a divisional opponent in three weeks. Detroit is the only non-divisional opponent Philadelphia plays from Jan 14 to Jan. 30. These are where the most important points can be picked up.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers have points in four straight games after entering the 2025 calendar year losing four straight. They've found secondary scoring as their most recent win over the Islanders saw five different players hit the back of the net. Philadelphia has four or more goals in three of their last four games as well. For a team that averages 3.04 goals per game, this has been a solid stretch.

Travis Konecny has continued to be the leader of this Flyers' group and now finds himself in the top 10 in NHL scoring. He is expected to shatter his career highs once again and there are still 36 more games left in the regular season. Konecny only seems to be getting better, a positive sign for those worried when he signed the long-term extension.

The Flyers will be without Ryan Poehling for the time being after he took a high hit from Maxim Tsyplakov in the first period against the Islanders. Tsyplakov was suspended three games for the play, despite not being called for a penalty during the game. Poehling did travel to New Jersey with the team, a positive sign. But the Flyers are going to take it easy with him over the next few days.

New Jersey Devils

It hasn't been the best month for the Devils midway through January. They've lost five of their seven games in the month, though their last two have earned them a point in overtime. Despite that, they're holding steady at second place in the division, eight more points than the closest wild card team. It's been a good year for New Jersey, which sits in the top 10 in the league.

They have a few players to thank for their solid season thus far. Jack Hughes leads the team with 55 points, tied for eighth in the league. He's coming off a three-point outing in the loss to Toronto and has nine points in his last five games. Jesper Bratt is right behind him with 52 points. He's come on strong for the Devils in the previous four seasons, breaking out for back-to-back 73-point campaigns before a career-high 83 last season. Nico Hischier is the team's leader in goals (22) as he could set a new high in goals, breaking the 31 he scored two seasons ago.

Jake Allen has played the backup role in his second season with the Devils. With Jacob Markstrom coming over this season, Allen is around to spell him occasionally. He's appeared in 13 games and has a 2.83 GAA and a .901 SV%. He has lost his last five starts.
