For the third time in under two weeks, the Flyers and Devils will meet, continuing Philadelphia's streak of divisional matchups. This one will conclude a home-and-home series with New Jersey.
The Flyers have had the better of the Devils two games into the season series. They picked up a road win back in December while winning on home ice two days ago. They'll go for the series win on Wednesday night.
Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers welcomed Scott Laughton back to the lineup a few days ago as he stepped in for Sean Couturier, who missed the game due to an illness. While the captain should be back in the lineup this evening, the re-addition of Laughton was a welcomed one. It wasn't just his empty netter to seal the victory that mattered. There is a reason the Flyers find it so tough to move on from a player who has spent his entire career in the city. The reactions of his teammates during and after his absence said plenty.
Sam Ersson, named to Team Sweden's roster this after, has had an impressive January and will likely make his final start of the month. He had posted a 6-2-0 record, 2.24 GAA, and a .913 SV%. Ersson also posted a shutout in January. Getting Ersson healthy was and has been important as this is the kind of goaltender he can be when he's at full strength. And being added to Sweden's roster for 4 Nations is a bonus on top of what has been a solid run for him lately.
Travis Konecny continues to step up and lead the Flyers. He's also enjoyed playing the Devils recently. In the two games so far, Konecny has two points. He is also on a personal six-game point streak against New Jersey. He has six goals and 12 points in that streak.
Flyers Projected Roster
Owen Tippett - Morgan Frost - Travis Konecny
Joel Farabee - Sean Couturier - Matvei Michkov
Tyson Foerster - Noah Cates - Bobby Brink
Anthony Richard - Scott Laughton - Garnet Hathaway
Travis Sanheim - Jamie Drysdale
Cam York - Rasmus Ristolainen
Nick Seeler - Erik Johnson

New Jersey Devils
The Devils remain one of the league's best teams, sitting third in the division and tied for third in the Eastern Conference. They also hold the league's third-best power play, though the Flyers have not allowed a power-play goal in the two games thus far. That includes a four-minute double-minor early in the last matchup.
Jack Hughes has been dealing with a finger injury that has hampered him. The Devils have been cautious with him, but he is expected to play against the Flyers. He leads the Devils in goals (19) and points (58). His next goal would mark his fourth straight campaign with at least 20 goals. Jesper Bratt is close behind with 16 goals and 56 points. The 26-year-old has spent his entire career with the Devils and has given them plenty over the last few seasons.
Jake Allen is expected to make his 18th appearance of the season. He has been in the net for both losses to the Flyers. Before the game two days ago, Allen had won his previous two matchups. One of those was a shutout against the Boston Bruins. The veteran netminder has improved his numbers from last season, posting a 2.70 GAA and .903 SV%.
