Flyers at Hurricanes, Game 13: Notes, Lineups, And How To Watch

Carolina has won six straight games. Can the Flyers halt them in their tracks?

With three wins in their last five games, the Flyers will visit one of the hottest teams in the NHL in the Carolina Hurricanes.

This is the first meeting between the two sides who will see each other two more times after Tuesday night. It has been all Carolina recently as they are 9-1-0 against the Flyers in the last 10 matchups. The lone Philadelphia win came a little under a year ago.

The Flyers have been outscored by the Hurricanes 7-3 in the last two matchups. For a team struggling to provide offense, they cannot be fighting from behind.

Philadelphia Flyers

This will be a big opportunity for Aleksei Kolosov, who will be starting in the net. With Sam Ersson sidelined for at least a week, this is likely to be Kolosov's net. While his sample size is only one start and one relief appearance, some judgment can be made about his game. He is very mobile and athletic in the net. He's quick to the puck and doesn't give up on the play easily. Those are good traits for a goaltender to have.

If the Flyers offense can help him out, that would do wonders. Carolina is a very fast team that is one of the best puck-possession teams in the league. Philadelphia has struggled to keep teams out of their zone, though they have gotten better at it lately. This will be a good test for them. If they can transition from defense to offense and make their chances count, they have a shot at coming out on top.

The Flyers will be missing Ryan Poehling from their lineup. According to John Tortorella, Poehling is banged up but also is dealing with some family matters. He did not join the Flyers on this road trip. Nic Deslauriers will enter the lineup in his place. Another change is Egor Zamula coming back in for the first time in four games. The play of Emil Andrae has made it tough to get Zamula back in the lineup. With the looming return of Cam York, decisions on defense are going to be hard.

Carolina Hurricanes

Stopping the Hurricanes wasn't going to be an easy task. Especially not with the way they have started the season. Carolina is 8-2-0 and has won six straight games. They are the fifth-best in the league in scoring, posting a 3.90 GF/GP. And they are second in the league when it comes to goals against (2.30). Look up and down the Hurricanes roster and there aren't many things to dislike.

Martin Necas has been on fire for Carolina. He leads the team with 18 points and was recently named the NHL's second star of the week. Necas had six goals and nine points in three games. He is tied with Jack Roslovic for the team lead in goals (6). Former Flyers' defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere is third on the team with nine points and first among defensemen. Philadelphia could use his offensive talent.

Pyotr Kochetkov has done well for the Hurricanes early on. He is 5-1-0 on the season and has won his last four appearances. He has only given up two goals apiece in three of those four games. Kochetkov has only given up four goals on one occasion this season. Overall, he has a 2.51 GAA and a .893 SV%.
