Flyers at Oilers, Game 3: Notes, Lineups, And How To Watch

Edmonton is looking for their first win of the season. Can the Flyers prevent that from happening?

Two more games on the road trip before Philadelphia heads back to the Wells Fargo Center to open their home slate of the season. But first, they must take care of the win-less Edmonton Oilers.

Edmonton has dropped three straight games to open the season. They've been outscored 15-3, shut out in their season opener against Winnipeg. Meanwhile, the Flyers have one win on the season. They've scored three goals apiece in two games, though one came via the shootout so technically they only have five goals. Philadelphia has yielded eight goals.

Jett Luchanko will enter the lineup once more as the Flyers aim not to overwhelm him during the road trip. His scratching against the Flames did not indicate his play was poor or give an idea of how the team felt about him. They want to ease him in and be able to evaluate him fairly. So he will get another game as Philadelphia has plenty of time to decide what is best for Luchanko's development.

Another change will be Matvei Michkov moving back to the right wing and away from Sean Couturier and Travis Konecny. John Tortorella admitted that Michkov looks uncomfortable on the left side and that affects his ability to be paired with Konecny. So he will move to a line with Morgan Frost and Owen Tippett. That line has a chance to produce speed and creativity. They were paired together for the majority of training camp. We'll see how quickly that chemistry returns.

Joel Farabee missed Monday's practice but was on the ice for Tuesday's morning skate. He has not missed a game in three years, dating back to when Tortorella first took over as head coach. Scott Laughton and Rasmus Ristolainen were not on the ice. A few Flyers are bumped and bruised according to Tortorella. So there could be some game-time decisions.

These are the lines that the Flyers skated in during morning rushes. They aren't likely to be the final lines, but they could closely resemble them.

Edmonton Oilers

There is no cause for concern yet with the Oilers. They started slowly last season and ended up catapulting up the standings with a 16-game winning streak. Surely, they'd like to not have to rattle off wins like that, however. Last season, they lost six of their first eight games. One of those was a 4-1 loss to the Flyers. Philadelphia wouldn't mind a repeat of that.

One of the most surprising things is that Connor McDavid does not have a goal. The Oilers superstar has two assists in three games and is a -5. While the latter stat isn't used much, it is still a shock to see regarding McDavid. The Flyers will try to keep his scoreless drought going, but it won't be easy. Three players are tied for the team lead in points, one of which is McDavid. The other two are Jeff Skinner and Mattias Ekholm. Skinner recently scored his first goal with his new team.

It's been a rough start to the season for Stuart Skinner. He has allowed eight goals in his two starts, one of which he was pulled during the second period. Skinner gave up five goals on 13 shots in that one. He gave up three in his last game so he's trending back in the right direction. But that 5.40 GAA and .805 SV% does not look good right now.

Oilers Projected Roster

Leon Draisaitl - Connor McDavid - Zach Hyman

Vasily Podkolzin - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - Viktor Arvidsson

Jeff Skinner - Adam Henrique - Connor Brown

Mattias Janmark - Derek Ryan - Corey Perry

Mattias Ekholm - Evan Bouchard

Darnell Nurse - Troy Stecher

Brett Kulak - Ty Emberson
