The Philadelphia Flyers are having a terrible start to the 2026-27 season, and it could result in a lot of changes happening if they can't find a way to turn things around ASAP.

The good news is the NHL season is coming into the start of trade season, when every major NHL insider in the sport is preparing their sites' trade boards. So for the Flyers, it won't be overly hard for them to find a team or two also looking to make a change, whether that be a major roster shake-up or just a struggling player looking for a change of scenery.

Which brings us to the first part of a series where Broad Street Buzz will look at players that the Flyers are being linked to and see if there is a fit. So, without further ado, the first player is going to be Ivan Miroshnichenko of the Washington Capitals.

Miroshnichenko could be a good addition for the Flyers

Miroshnichenko has the potential to be a good addition for the Flyers. At just 22 years old, he doesn't have much in the way of NHL experience. Over his four years in the NHL, he has only played in 55 games and scored six goals and eight assists for 14 points.

Unfortunately, he hasn't had an extended look at the NHL; the most games he's played in a season was 21 in the 2023-24 season, at just 19 years old. After that, he never hit 20 games, but if he were to be given a chance to be on a team like the Flyers, he could be an everyday NHL'er.

It has been reported that the Capitals and Miroshnichenko's agent are working together to give a change of scenery. Obviously, things like this take time, but according to David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period, the Flyers are one of six teams being linked to Miroshnichenko.

Philadelphia joins the Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings, Ottawa Senators and the Seattle Kraken as the teams Pagnotta linked to the young Russian forward. In that same trade bait board piece, Pagnotta confirmed that there just isn't enough room on the roster for Miroshnichenko.

"This isn’t a matter of a team moving on from a player. There simply isn’t enough room for him on the roster. The Capitals have given Miroshnichenko’s agent permission to speak with other teams to help facilitate a trade. We’ll see if that moves the needle. "
David Pagnotta

At this point, there is no official asking price for Miroshnichenko. However, one can make the assumption that it isn't going to be a lot. Especially considering there isn't any room on the Capitals' roster for him. Which is why this is likely going to be a draft pick going the other way.

Which is why the Flyers should offer a third or fourth round pick for him and add him into the fold as soon as they can. Adding another young Russian forward to the Flyers, who was a former first overall pick and who has tons of skill, could be a very good middle-six addition for Danny Briere and the Flyers' organization.
