During the slow month of August on the NHL calendar, it’s always a good idea for hockey fans to look ahead at what individual players on their favorite club might accomplish in the coming year.
For the Philadelphia Flyers, numerous players are approaching career milestones, adding to franchise history, and sometimes both. The Flyers don’t have anyone knocking on the door of 500 goals or 1,000 points, but this year figures to be a special one packed with notable achievements by several members of the Orange and Black.
Flyers players have numerous milestones coming during the 2026-27 NHL season
Noah Cates - 9 assists away from 100
Noah Cates has turned himself into one of the better two-way middle-six centers in the league, which is a credit to his work ethic and the Flyers’ development of their fifth-round pick from 2017. After a career-high 47 points last year, Cates has an outside shot at hitting the 200-point plateau this year. But even if he doesn’t get there, he’ll at least coast past 100 assists with ease.
Christian Dvorak - 23 assists away from 200
Many doubt Dvorak’s ability to come anywhere near his career-high total of 51 points put up for the Flyers last year. That total included 33 assists, so even with regression, he still seems likely to pass 200 helpers for his career in 2026-27. The 30-year old Dvorak has had an uneven career, but he still has some runway and should ultimately surpass 200 goals and 500 points for his career when all is said and done in a few years.
Travis Sanheim - 15 assists away from 200
Travis Sanheim has become a steadying presence on the team’s blueline in recent years, and his 250 points from the backend are already fourth in Flyers history. In addition to putting up 15 assists this year to earn 200 for his career, he’ll also catch Kimmo Timonen for third place in points by a Flyers defenseman once he collects 20 more points.
Cam York - 20 assists away from 100
Last season, York became the 28th Flyers defenseman to reach 100 career points. Now, he’ll look to become the 25th to hit 100 assists. He should be able to crack the top 20 in franchise history by season’s end if he can produce his usual output.
Nick Seeler - 47 games away from 500
Few people in the game have worked as hard to get into and stay in the league as Nick Seeler. This upcoming season (assuming he’s still with the Flyers), he is poised to finally hit the 500-game mark at the ripe old age of 33. It’s quite the testament to a player who had only 105 NHL games to his name by the age of 28. Appreciated by his team and fans alike for his all-out effort, Seeler’s 500th game will feel more like a 1,000-game celebration for most other players.
Owen Tippett - 72 games away from 500
The Flyers could be cautious with Owen Tippett this season, given the injury that kept him out of the second round of the playoffs and resulted in offseason surgery. But Tippett has shown to be a durable player, appearing in at least 77 games in each of his four full seasons with the Flyers. A freak injury can strike anytime, but Tippett seems like a strong bet to get halfway to 1,000 games at just 28 years of age late this upcoming season.
Trevor Zegras - 7 goals away from 100, 40 assists away from 200, 47 points away from 300
Zegras could post a trio of early-career milestones this year. First up, seven goals to hit the century mark should be a cinch by sometime in November. Then a longer haul to 300 points and 200 assists, but he’ll get there if he repeats (or hopefully ups) his production from last year. Zegras is poised for a very productive NHL career after righting the ship for the Orange and Black last year.
Travis Konecny - 25 goals away from 250, 56 points away from 600, 77 games away from 800
Only ten players in Flyers franchise history have notched 250 goals, and Konecny figures to be the next man to join the club. He needs just seven more goals to equal both Mark Recchi and Rick Tocchet, then three more after that to catch Rod Brind’Amour before beginning his assault on 250 goals and the franchise’s top ten list. With a healthy year, Konecny can also push all the way up to fifth all-time in games played for the Flyers.
Sean Couturier - 21 points away from 600, 48 games away from 1,000
Lastly, Flyers captain Sean Couturier looks to etch his name even further into the team’s history books this season. With 579 points that place him 12th on the Flyers’ all-time leaderboard, Couturier’s next targets will be Brind’Amour (601) and Jakub Voracek (604). Passing them would place him in the team’s top 10 all-time by season’s end.
Couturier sits third all-time in games played for the franchise, and he will tie former teammate Claude Giroux for second place on the list with 48 games played this year to reach 1,000. From there, only Bobby Clarke (1,144) will stand ahead of him in the history of the franchise. It’s quite the feat on his part, considering that Couturier has lost about two years’ worth of potential games due to injury and shortened seasons throughout his career.
Even though all of these numbers are realistically attainable for various Flyers during the 2026-27 NHL season, odds are they won’t all happen for one reason or another. That’s why we watch the games. Statistics in sports are a beautiful thing, as they keep us watching and rooting for certain players, debating and comparing them against each other during their careers and even long after they retire.
It should be a fun season to see both how the Flyers play as a team and how their individual players perform as the campaign rolls along.
