The Philadelphia Flyers have a knack for going viral. Whether it’s on-ice antics, fan engagement, or Gritty’s usual nonsense, the Flyers get disproportionate attention compared to their actual performance and NHL impact. This is a team that’s fun to watch, and they shocked the world by making the playoffs in 2026. Not only that, they beat their biggest rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins, possibly ending Sidney Crosby’s last real chance at a run.
All of this leads to Saturday night. Once again, the Flyers were going viral. However, seemingly for once, everyone was on the Flyers’ side in this one.
See, to make it make sense, we have to discuss the situation on Thursday night. Trevor Zegras was assessed a penalty for tucking in his jersey in the Flyers’ preseason game against the Boston Bruins. The official penalty was “improperly wearing the equipment.”
The reaction was universal. Most thought the penalty call was borderline insane. Many reported that players were getting warnings about equipment, but it was clear that Zegras did not find the situation warranted. He clearly showed his emotions during the play and even posted on Instagram about the incident, bringing back memories of the “Tuck Rule” that started Tom Brady’s legendary run.
On Saturday night, ahead of the Flyers’ final preseason game, the team showed they have Zegras’s back on this matter.

The Flyers all tucked their jerseys in. It was one of those moments where everyone celebrates a team for showing some guts in the fact of adversity. Listen, this isn’t any kind of heroics, but it was an absolutely cool moment that the Flyers can build around.
Since Rick Tocchet took over, the Flyers seem to know what it means to play like a team. This is why, despite not being the most talented team in the Metropolitan Division and full of young players, the Flyers are still expected to be in the mix for the playoffs again. Being a team like they are gives them a step above the other teams in the Metro, which seem to be a bunch of new faces finding ways to deal with the pressure of hockey in the Northeast.
We love to see this from our Flyers faithful. It might only be a jersey tuck, but it could be the pivot that puts this team on the right path going into the season.
