Although the Flyers are in the middle of their final push for the playoffs, the organization is still planning for the future. On Thursday morning, the team announced they had signed former second-round pick Jack Berglund to a three-year entry-level deal with the deal starting in the 2026-27 season.
He will report to the Leigh Valley Phantoms and will finish the 2025-26 season with them. This is the beginning of the next chapter in Berglund's career. But when could we see Berglund in the NHL, and what type of player will he be?
Will we see Jack Berglund in the NHL soon?
Berglund has been one of the most intriguing prospects for the Flyers since he was drafted back in 2024. He has been a borderline top-ten prospect in the Flyers organization. He's not afraid to use his hulking 6' 4", 210-pound frame to his advantage, bringing a ton of grit and physical play. He also has a good shot and is not a liability on defense. Many scouts have said he is a high-floor prospect who should develop into a middle-six forward.
But 2025-26 was the biggest of Berglund's career. It was his first full season in the Swedish Hockey League, the highest level of hockey in Sweden. In 40 games for Farjestad BK, he notched seven goals and five assists for 12 points. He also recorded three assists during Farjestad BK's playoff run. However, the biggest moment came during the World Junior Championship. He captained Team Sweden, which went on to win the Gold Medal, scoring three goals and seven assists for 10 points.
His going to the AHL is perfect for his development. Although it looks like the Phantoms will miss the playoffs, he still has five games left to play. It is the perfect way to adjust to the North American game. He can spend these games getting used to the different aspects of the game and have an idea of what to expect. That way, when he comes to camp next season, there is less of an adjustment period. He can hit the ground running and make a quicker impact.
Now Berglund seems destined to spend the entire 2026-27 season with the Phantoms. Regardless of how well he plays in these next five games or in the pre-season next year, it's best for him to have a full season in the minors. A full season in the AHL will get him properly adjusted to the speed and physicality of North American hockey. If he does really well, maybe he can get called up towards the end of the season, but it's more likely he will make his debut at some point during the 2027-28 season.
While it may be a little bit before we see Berglund in the NHL, it's very exciting he's coming to North America. He is going to be one of the must watch guys on the Phantoms next season.
