The Philadelphia Flyers have been busy locking up pieces of their roster. First, they signed Dan Vladar to a five-year deal. But they also locked up Tyson Foerster to an eight-year extension worth $56 million total.
This comes out to around seven million annually. This deal will go into effect at the start of the 2027-28 season, when his current deal ends. It is clear that the Flyers view Foerster as an important part of their future. But how will he fit into their long-term plans?

13 goals in 29 games...he gets security, Flyers lock-in the talent
What will be Tyson Foerster’s role going forward?
Foerster has been solid since joining the Flyers during the 2022-23 season. Over his 195 career games, he has racked up 61 goals and 39 assists for 100 points. While his 2025-26 numbers don't jump off the page, he missed 53 games due to an upper body injury. He was on pace for 11 goals and 48 assists for 59 points. His assists and points total would have been new career highs for him. He also had a 45.54 CF%, a 50 SCF%, and a 50.85 xG% according to Natural Stat Trick.
It appears that Foerster is starting to live up to the hype he received when he was the 23rd overall pick in the 2020 draft. Although he has been the guy to set up his teammates during his NHL career, he should be able to develop into a guy who can finish the play. This will help him become one of the Flyers' main offensive producers. He also has a high hockey IQ, which allows him to read the play and disrupt plays. Defense may not be his strength, but he can do it consistently.
With Foerster only being 24 years old, he should become a staple of the Flyers' top six for years to come. He will most likely be a second-line winger to start the season, like he was when he returned from injury and during the playoffs. But as he continues to get older and mature physically, he could easily become a top-line winger. He will also be a key contributor to the Flyers' special teams. He will be on the first unit for both the power play and the penalty kill.
With his new deal, Foerster has cemented himself as a key piece of the Flyers' core. He is someone who is going to be an offensive force for years to come.
