Flyers vs Capitals, Game 7: Notes, Lineups, And How To Watch
Another chance for the Flyers to break their losing ways.
After yet another loss, the Flyers will have a quick chance to figure things out. In a rather lackluster effort against the Capitals, they will face the same Washington team in the back end of a home-and-home series.
On the back of two shorthanded goals, the Capitals ended up cruising to a rather easy 4-1 win. Travis Sanheim’s third period tally was the Flyers first goal in a little over five periods of hockey.
Goal scoring has been extremely hard to come by, but the beat goes on and this team has to find a way to hit the back of the net. It doesn’t have to be pretty, it doesn’t have to be some magical play. Every goal counts the same and evening getting the greasiest goal you can score can help snap the Flyers out of their tailspin.
We don’t want another 10+ game losing streak, do we?
Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers have scored 13 goals in their first five games. Not terrible, right? Except they’ve surrendered 25 goals to their opponents. That’s an average of five goals given up per game. That is not going to win you many games. But it’s not the goaltending that has been the entire problem. In fact, Sam Ersson is a large reason the Flyers aren’t getting completely blown out in these games. Ivan Fedotov on the other hand…he’s a work in progress.
With the Flyers unable to create much sustained pressure, John Tortorella has tried to mix and match the lines to find the right combinations. Whether or not that’s part of the problem is a fair argument. But a large majority of this team has played together for the past year so they should know how to play with mostly anyone.
Trying to kick this losing streak, expect more lineup changes. Rumor has it that unless any Flyers are injured enough and not able to play, Morgan Frost and Bobby Brink could be out of the lineup. After strong preseason, Brink has four points in six games. Frost is looking for his first goal, but he does have three assists.
Their departure would bring Tyson Foerster and Jett Luchanko back into the lineup. Ivan Fedotov should get this game as it’s the second half of the back to back. But nothing appears to be off limits at this point.
This is the group that lined up to start the game last night. But it’s likely it won’t be the same roster that takes to the ice tonight.
Flyers Projected Lineup
Owen Tippett - Sean Couturier - Matvei Michkov
Scott Laughton - Morgan Frost - Travis Konecny
Joel Farabee - Ryan Poehling - Bobby Brink
Nic Deslauriers - Noah Cates - Garnet Hathaway
Cam York - Travis Sanheim
Nick Seeler - Jamie Drysdale
Egor Zamula - Rasmus Ristolainen
Ivan Fedotov
Washington Capitals
Not much has changed with this Capitals team since last night. After scoring four goals, they now have 20 goals on the season and 17 during this five-game win streak. They’ve scored four goals in three of those wins. And their goaltending has given up two or fewer goals in four of the games. They are clicking on all cylinders.
The Flyers were able to stop Tom Wilson’s goal scoring streak. He didn’t register a point after scoring five goals in his first four games. Wilson has six total points as well. Connor McMichael established career highs for himself last season and is off to a good start this year. He has six points in five games and already has two multi-point games. He’s been an integral part of their top-six.
Charlie Lindgren had a rather easy night as he faced just 18 shots and only eight in the final two periods combined. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that the Capitals could go right back to him. But let’s assume that Logan Thompson gets his shot at the Flyers. He’s posted a 3.41 GAA and a .877 SV% in two games.
