After their win and point streak ended on Monday night, the Flyers will look to start a new streak against the Hurricanes.
Philadelphia will want to avenge their loss to Carolina earlier this month. After battling back to tie the game, the Flyers gave up the go-ahead goal with 29 seconds remaining. They later yielded an empty netter in the 6-4 loss.
Travis Konecny, who has continued his All-Star pace, had four points on the night for Philadelphia.
Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers will not get back any of their injured players in this one. Sam Ersson, Cam York, and Jamie Drysdale all remain on IR. The latter two are close to returning, though. Emil Andrae remains out with a day-to-day label. Helge Grans got the call in his place and didn't look too out of place. He was even elevated to the top pairing with Travis Sanheim as John Tortorella sought a spark against Colorado.
Like Colorado, Carolina is one of the best teams at controlling puck possession. They also have speed on their side. If Philadelphia can get into lanes and find a way to disrupt the Hurricanes offense, they'll have a chance. Playing from behind isn't the answer. Even if the Flyers have found ways to battle back, chasing the game won't always work, especially against a team like the Hurricanes.
Both teams have some of the top penalty-kill units in the league. The Flyers have the fourth best at 86.4%, while the Hurricanes are right behind them at 85%. Special teams could end up being a factor in this game. Philadelphia scored the only power-play goal in the last matchup.
Flyers Projected Lineup
Owen Tippett - Sean Couturier - Travis Konecny
Joel Farabee - Scott Laughton - Bobby Brink
Anthony Richard - Noah Cates - Matvei Michkov
Tyson Foerster - Ryan Poehling - Garnet Hathaway
Travis Sanheim - Rasmus Ristolainen
Nick Seeler - Erik Johnson
Egor Zamula - Helge Grans
Ivan Fedotov
Carolina Hurricanes
Always one of the top teams in the league, the Hurricanes once again find themselves there early on in the season. They are second to a hot Capitals team, though a win against Philadelphia would put them first in the division. The Canes have won two straight and 11 of their last 13. They've played well on the road, compiling a 6-3-0 record.
Martin Necas has been scorching hot to start the season after trade rumors followed him this summer. He has 11 goals and 30 points in only 17 games. He has a point in all but two games and is coming off his second four-point outing this year. Necas has a 14-point lead over his next teammate, Andrei Svechnikov.
Pyotr Kochetkov has handled most of the goaltending duties this season in the absence of Freddie Andersen. Kochetkov has a 2.42 GAA, and a .904 SV%. He has won four of his last five starts, one of which was the last time these two teams faced.
Hurricanes Projected Roster
Andrei Svechnikov - Sebastian Aho - Jack Roslovic
Eric Robinson - Jesperi Kotkaniemi - Martin Necas
Jordan Martinook - Jordan Staal - William Carrier
Tyson Jost - Jack Drury - Jackson Blake
Jaccob Slavin - Brent Burns
Dmitry Orlov - Jalen Chatfield
Shayne Gostisbehere - Sean Walker
