The Philadelphia Flyers are looking to build momentum in a jam-packed Metro Division. The club is in a three-way tie with the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Columbus Blue Jackets at 25 points apiece. However, Philly has the edge due to their better record.
That situation puts the Flyers in a unique position not seen in the last few seasons. The club has a realistic shot at making the postseason and could be looking to add pieces moving forward.
One such piece, according to insider Frank Servalli, could be Winnipeg Jets’ former first-round pick Brad Lambert. Lambert has been the subject of ongoing speculation since news got out that the 30th overall pick from the 2022 NHL Draft has asked for a trade.
The 21-year-old has played a total of 10 NHL games in parts of three seasons. He’s notched one goal and two assists for three points. This season, he’s played in only four games, scoring one goal. His ice time has been minuscule, seeing action for less than seven minutes in his last game on November 4 against the LA Kings.
With that situation in mind, a trade could be on the horizon for the Jets’ pick. Per Seravalli, numerous teams have inquired about Lambert’s availability. One such team could be the Flyers. During the November 21 episode of Frankly Hockey, Servalli named the Flyers among other clubs looking to land the Jets’ prospect.
Frank Seravalli: Re Brad Lambert: There's tons of teams out there...he fits the age scheme that they're looking for, Calgary, probably Vancouver, the Flyers; Montreal you could see making sense - Frankly Hockey (11/21)

The Flyers, being a young club as they are, could make a sensible destination for Lambert. It’s no secret Philly could use more young, skilled forwards. So, why not make a move if the price is right?
That’s where the rubber hits the road. The price may not necessarily be right in this type of trade.
How Lambert Could Fit into Flyers’ Lineup
Lambert is listed as a center. That’s why he could be a good fit for the Flyers this season. While the Flyers aren’t in a desperate situation, potentially inserting Lambert in the 3C role could make sense for now.
Currently, the Flyers have Noah Cates at the 2C spot with Christian Dvorak in the 3C role. Perhaps bumping Dvorak to the 4C role could give the Flyers enviable depth. While Dvorak would be an expensive check-line center, the fact is that Philly could use the versatility that could come from adding Lambert.
Coach Rick Tocchet could shuffle lines around throughout games, especially if the club shows trouble scoring. It’s reasonable to even see Cates move up to the 1C spot with Sean Couturier sliding down the depth chart.
These are all possibilities that come with having options. Any coach would be happy to have as much depth as possible. So, GM Daniel Briere could give Tocchet the gift of depth this holiday season.
