In the Rangers post-game write-up, I mentioned several things about Philly sports that we've come to accept. Well, there is another understood thing that we Flyers fans have come to grips with this season. They cannot win back-to-back games this year. A night after falling to the Rangers, the Flyers lost an early lead and fell to New York 3-1. This year, they are 1-7-1 in the second game of back-to-back sets.
Tyson Foerster scored the lone goal for the Flyers. He raced down the side of the boards and fired a laser shot over the shoulder of Ilya Sorokin. Travis Konecny and Erik Johnson got the assists. The game was Johnson's first one since November. He was in the lineup for Egor Zamula, who was is day-to-day. For the second night in a row, the Flyers jumped off to an early lead in the first period. And for the second night in a row, they couldn't hold it.
Ivan Fedotov was in the net, giving Sam Ersson a much-needed rest. And while Fedotov has been shaky this year, this game wasn't fully his fault. Three minutes after Foerster's goal, the Islanders put two goals up in the span of 55 seconds. The first was by Anthony Duclair and the second was by Bo Horvat. Both goals came on turnovers that became odd-man rushes. Fedotov stood no chance.
In the second period, the Islanders converted another rush into a goal. This time, it was Brock Nelson. Now this is one would hope that Fedotov could stop. There was no one blocking his sight of Nelson as he fired the shot from the faceoff dot. Fedotov would finish with 24 saves on 23 shots, losing his fourth straight. Nelson would finish with two points as would Kyle Palmieri.
The Flyers come home and rest before having to take on the Devils on Monday night in the first game of a home-and-home series.
