The Philadelphia Flyers came into Sunday afternoon's game against the Utah Mammoth in need of a win. They dropped three of the last four games and were hoping to stop the losing streak.
Ahead of the game, they received great news that both Travis Konecny and Owen Tippett would be returning to the lineup, providing them with a much-needed spark, and it worked. They beat the Mammoth 6-3, snapping their losing streak, and are heading into a new month hoping to turn things around.
Konecny scores in his return
It was a great afternoon for Flyers fans; they got to see two of their best offensive forwards back into the lineup. They beat the red-hot Mammoth; Matvei Michkov scored his eighth goal in eight games, and Konecny played well and scored in his return.
Konecny's goal came just a minute into the second period, where he banked the puck off Mammoth's goalie, Karel Vejmelka, to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead. He would later pick up an assist on Christian Dvorak's goal in the third period while also recording four hits.
Travis Konecny is back.

In classic Konecny fashion, his physical play stood out. He didn't shy away from any scrums, including jumping in to stand up for Trevor Zegras, who was taken into the boards awkwardly. He would be assessed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the play. Despite the penalty, he quickly showed why he is a fan favourite. As soon as he jumped in for Zegras, the crowd went wild, as did Flyers fans on X.
After the game, Konecny spoke on how hard it has been being out of the lineup, especially with how much the club has struggled in the early going.
"It's difficult, 'cause there's just a lot of stuff that's being said. I'm around the rink all the time, and I see how hard these guys are working and how mad they are after [a loss], and I want to help, and I can't, so I just try to stay light a little bit and be around the best I could... There's obviously noise, but as far as our group, there's no talk about that. It's just like, let's get back on track. Let's chip away and see where we're at the end. People can doubt us. That's fine. They did last year.
We didn't know we were going to get in last year. We just put our heads down and went to work, and that's kind of our plan right now.""
This truly goes to show just how hard it is on players when a team is losing a lot, especially those who are injured and not always around the group. However, for the Flyers and Konecny, they are getting their emotional leaders back. Someone who brings the energy every night, and hopefully that provides a spark to help the team turn things around.
