The Philadelphia Flyers' season ended this past weekend, as they were swept by the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round of the playoffs. It was obvious entering the series that the Flyers were the underdogs, but it didn't help matters that they were dealing with injuries across their roster. One player they did not have for the entire second round series against the Hurricanes was winger Owen Tippett.
The reporting was that Tippett was dealing with a sports hernia injury that he suffered during the first round, which forced him to miss the entirety of the Carolina series. As it turns out, Tippett was also dealing with another concerning issue.
On Tuesday, before speaking with reporters, Tippett revealed that he was dealing with an internal bleeding issue that he sustained during Philadelphia's first round series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. That was the reason why he missed out on the second round of the playoffs. Tippett is confident that he can make a full recovery and return for training camp in September.

Owen Tippett reveals he dealt with internal bleeding issue, forcing him to miss Flyers' second round series vs. Hurricanes
"Following a series of medical evaluations, treatments, and rehabilitation under the care of Flyers medical team, I am making progress and feeling better each day. Despite being cleared to travel and skate with the team at certain practices, things did not progress at a pace that I hoped for or would allow me to safely continue playing," writes Tippett.
"I am beyond proud of what our team has accomplished this season and truly moved by the tremendous support of the fans.
"I want to sincerely thank everyone for that support — both personally for me and my family, as well as our entire medical and performance staff."
While speaking with reporters in his scheduled press conference, Tippett said that the issue was not related to his sports hernia injury, and that it was a day-to-day issue. While he was practicing, Tippett said that he never reached the point where he could receive clearance to play from trainers and doctors.
Tippett also said that he isn't sure what play caused the internal bleeding issue, but that he just didn't feel right after the series against the Penguins. But he is feeling better by the day.
Tippett is coming off of an impressive season, where he scored a team high 28 goals, while recording 23 assists. Having Tippett on the ice was a big factor in the team's success. In the playoffs, Tippett recorded one goal and one assist in the six game series against the Penguins. Not having Tippett on the ice for the Carolina series didn't help them, but he was dealing with a serious issue.
The Flyers are pushing their young core of players as reasons for optimism heading into next season and beyond. Tippett will play a huge role in that, as he is under contract until after the 2031-32 season. As for his internal bleeding issue, he is confident that he will be ready and healthy enough for the start of next season.
