In just a short amount of time, Porter Martone has completey endeared himself to the Philadelphia Flyers fanbase. Martone, last year's first-round pick, was signed to an entry-level contract late in the season to help the Flyers in their push for a playoff spot, which they secured in their penultimate game of the season. In Philadelphia's first round series against the in-state rival Pittsburgh Penguins, Martone had two goals and one assist through the first five games. Not only that, but Martone has gotten on the nerves of the Penguins throughout this series.

Game 6 was no different.

Early in the first period, Penguins goalie Arturs Silovs iced the puck to stop the play. Owen Tippett stood near Silovs, resulting in Penguins forward Blake Lizotte to skate towards him. However, Martone hit Lizotte hard, causing him to fall over Silovs.

Lizotte was livid over getting hit by Martone. As he got up from the ice, he skated over to Martone trying to get at him. As he was tangled up with the referees, Lizotte appeared to spear Martone down low.

Despite Lizotte swinging his stick towards Martone and the referees surrounding them, there was no penalty issued.

Flyers fans were up in arms about the lack of a penalty issued to Lizotte. Any fan of any team seeing one of the players on their favorite team get hit with an attempt at a spear and it going uncalled will get them upset and riled up.

Regardless, Martone has embraced the stakes of the "Battle of Pennsylvania." He has shown at the end of games he's not afraid to get into a scrum. From Game 4 where he was tied up with Bryan Rust, who pulled his hair in the scrum, to Game 5, where Martone got into it with Kris Letang, ripping off his helmet in the process.

Let's not forget that Martone is 6-foot-3 and weighs 214 pounds, and he is showing that he's not afraid to use his physical stature to his advantage to rile up his team and to upset the opposition.

Martone's career is young, but he has already become a fan favorite in Philadelphia, and a hated player whenever he returns to Pittsburgh.
