The Philadelphia Flyers are going to have some adjustments to make this summer. They will certainly make additions via free agency, trades, and the draft.
As far as free agency, there are a lot of players that the Flyers could consider for depth. One of them is Alexander Barabanov who most recently played for the San Jose Sharks.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Barabanov is going to be on the move via free agency this summer. The San Jose Sharks almost dealt him ahead of the trade deadline a few months ago and now he will leave them.
The Philadelphia Flyers would be smart to sign a guy like Alexander Barabanov
Barabanov is the type of guy that the Flyers could use right now. He could play in the bottom six and he should thrive playing on a much better team.
On a terrible Sharks team, he had four goals and nine assists for 13 points in 46 games played. This isn't his best work but the Sharks were one of the worst teams in NHL history this season. He had no help whatsoever.
The year before, the Sharks were bad but not this bad. He had 15 goals and 32 assists for 47 points in 68 games played which were all career highs.
If he brought that type of production to the Flyers, they'd be a deeper team. A lot of hype will surround some of the younger talent but this guy is a good player that would help them win games.
For some of these younger players to develop well, they need to do some winning in the NHL. Having depth will help this team do that.
Barabanov is only 29 years old right now but 2024-25 will be his age 30 season. He isn't getting any younger but he also has some really good hockey left in his game. With the experience that he has, a young Flyers team would love to have him.
