Coming off one of their most dominant games of the season, the Flyers will face another contender in the Colorado Avalanche for a Saturday matinee.

The Flyers handily defeated the Avalanche back on Dec. 9. Travis Konecny scored twice as Philadelphia scored two goals in both the second and third period of a 5-2 victory.

Philadelphia Flyers

Don't call it a statement win according to John Tortorella, but the Flyers win over the Stars was a dominating affair from start to finish. Aside from a small lull in the second period, the outcome was never in doubt for Philadelphia.

Owen Tippett and Morgan Frost continued to produce. Frost set up Sean Walker with a between the legs pass and also assisted on Cam Atkinson's power play goal. Since his one on one meeting with Tortorella, Frost has found a new gear to his game. He's more noticeable on the ice and has seven points in six games.

For Tippett, there might not be a more confident player than him right now. The goals are coming and have been of the highlight reel type. He has five goals in his last five games, including his spin-o-rama goal that capped off the win against the Stars. He's been hitting the net more, something Tortorella talked about in regard to him scoring more goals. It's working for him right now.

Colorado Avalanche

The Avalanche come in having split wins and losses during their four games. They’ve lost to Boston and Montreal, while defeating the Leafs and Senators. They are 6-3-0 in the month of January and have won four of their last six games overall.

It’s no surprise that Nathan MacKinnon leads the way for the Avalanche. He tops the team in all offensive categories with 24 goals and 73 points. Mikko Rantanen also has 24 goals, but is second with 58 points. It goes to show the kind of season that MacKinnon is having when he leads the team in points by almost 20. Cale Makar leads the way on the backend with 53 points and is fifth overall with 10 goals.

Alexander Georgiev is expected to tend the net against the Flyers. The recently named All-Star doesn’t exactly have those types of numbers. He’s 24-11-2, but has a 2.95 GAA and a .896 SV%. He’s lost his last two games, giving up four goals in each.
