Fresh off the All-Star break, the Philadelphia Flyers will be back in action against the Florida Panthers.

This is the first of three meetings between the two teams. They will rematch in Florida on Mar. 7 before finishing the season series in Philadelphia on Mar. 24.

The home team was victorious in each game last season. Carter Verhaeghe scored twice in a 4-3 victory for the Panthers on Oct. 19. The Flyers tied the game 2-2, but gave up two straight goals in the third. They got their revenge just over a week later in a 4-3 win. Four different Flyers scored, while nine players had a point. Philadelphia took the season series with a convincing 6-3 win on Mar. 21. Travis Sanheim scored twice, and six Flyers had a multi-point game.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers are hoping that the break did them well. They lost five straight after putting together a five-game winning streak. They didn't lose ground in the standings, sitting in third place in the division. But the Islanders are two points behind them. Philadelphia will need to string some wins together in a more consistent fashion.

There is good news with Owen Tippett expected to return against the Panthers. He suffered a lower-body injury against the Avalanche on Jan. 20. He would miss the next four games as the Flyers decided to play it safe with their freshly signed winger. Tippett had eight points in his last seven games before going down with the injury. Six of those points were goals. This will be Tippett's first game back in Florida.

It is officially Sam Ersson's net for the near future. He has been in the net for the last four losses but put together a string of solid play before that. He has already been committed to after signing an extension over the summer. However, this is the perfect time to show the Flyers he can be the team's number-one goaltender.

Flyers Projected Lineup

Owen Tippett - Sean Couturier - Cam Atkinson

Joel Farabee - Morgan Frost - Travis Konecny

Tyson Foerster - Ryan Poehling - Noah Cates

Scott Laughton - Garnet Hathaway

Travis Sanheim - Rasmus Ristolainen

Cam York - Jamie Drysdale

Nick Seeler - Sean Walker

Florida Panthers

The Panthers wished the break came at a different time as they won four straight heading into it. It will be home sweet home for Florida during the next three games. Sunrise has been kind to them, as they hold a 14-7-2 record on home ice. However, they have lost four of their last five at Amerant Bank Arena.

The Panthers are led offensively by Sam Reinhart, who is having an outstanding season. He has 37 goals and 62 points. The goals are a new career high, while he's 20 points from the high he set with the Panthers during the 2021-22 season. 20 of his goals this season have come on the power play, so the Flyers need to stay out of the penalty box. Carter Verhaeghe is second on the team with 24 goals, with Matthew Tkachuk being second with 51 points.

Sergei Bobrovsky is the clear number-one goaltender for the Panthers. He has appeared in 36 games this season, winning 23 of them. He holds a 2.51 GAA and a .910 SV%. The Panthers also have another former Flyers' goaltender, Anthony Stolarz, on the roster. He has only appeared in 15 games, though he did earn the victory in the Panthers' final game before the break. He will be getting the start against the Flyers, though.

Panthers Projected Lineup

Evan Rodrigues - Aleksander Barkov - Sam Reinhart

Carter Verhaeghe - Sam Bennett - Matthew Tkachuk

Eetu Luostarinen - Anton Lundell - Nic Cousins

Jonah Gadjovich - Kevin Stenlund - Ryan Lomberg

Gustav Forsling - Aaron Ekblad

Niko Mikkola - Brandon Montour

Oliver Ekman-Larsson - Dmitry Kulikov

Anthony Stolarz
