As development camp comes to a close, the Philadelphia Flyers had one final order of business to take care of.
Jett Luchanko will be heading back to Guelph with a new contract in hand. He has been signed to a three-year, entry-level contract. He becomes the 12th member of the 2024 Draft class to sign his ELC.
Jett Luchanko signs entry-level deal with Flyers
Luchanko was a bit of a surprise pick when the Flyers stepped up to the podium. They had traded the 12th pick to Minnesota, moving back one spot. With the 13th overall selection, there was plenty of top-rated talent still on the board. But Luchanko's stock has risen considerably throughout the season. And Philadelphia was happy to make him a part of their organization.
Luchanko used a chance to move up in the lineup as a spark for a breakout season in the OHL. He potted 20 goals and finished the season with 74 points, a jump of 60 points from the previous season. Speed is the name of the game for him and he uses it well. He was masterful on the power play as 33 of his points came on the man advantage.
He opened more eyes with a strong performance at the World Juniors, helping Canada take home the gold medal. Luchanko had seven points in seven games. He wasn't tops on the team by any means, but he played a role in their victory.
The Flyers have been high on Luchanko's potential for a long time. Signing him to an entry-level deal shows the faith they have in him. He will spend another season or two in Guelph before jumping to the professional level. Just 17 years old, there is room to grow for Luchanko. But being in his third year in the OHL, he should be poised for an even stronger season.
