Rosters around the NHL are not due until 5:00 p.m. on Monday evening. However, with the Flyers making their final cuts last week, they have announced the 23 players that will open the season with the team.

There is one housekeeping note before diving into the roster. Ryan Ellis, who is still not expected to return to the NHL, has been listed on injured reserve. With a little over 2M in cap space, the Flyers do not need to dip into LTIR at this time. They would prefer to not have to use it, the same as they have done with Ellis before.

A quick breakdown of the roster has the Flyers carrying 14 forwards to start the season. The reason for that starts with none other than Jett Luchanko. The 13th overall pick from this summer's draft will become the youngest Flyer in franchise history to make his debut. There is no word on if he will play the trial run of nine games, or remain with the team for the entire season. The latter would burn the first year of his ELC.

Unsurprisingly, Matvei Michkov will also be making his NHL debut. He came as advertised during the preseason, leading the team with seven points. He will be given every opportunity to help make this Flyers team better throughout the season.

And lastly as expected, the Flyers will have seven defensemen on the roster to start the year. Despite Emil Andrae's strong camp, the team prefers to not carry eight defensemen at this time.
