Predictions For The 2024-25 Philadelphia Flyers Season

The regular season is just around the corner. How might the Flyers look when the games begin to count?

It's prediction time for the 2024-25 Philadelphia Flyers. Time to look at the season ahead and see how the team will do. The last two years, I've been pretty close on a few things. Maybe I'll get it right this time. More importantly, maybe the team will too.

The hard thing for this year is both the Flyers and the Metropolitan Division. Both are in a wacky and wild state of transition. How good will the Flyers' rookies be? Will the goaltending stand up? Can the team stay healthy? What about the competition in the division? Let's take a peak and see what we can discern.

What Place Will the Flyers Finish In?

1. Rangers
2. Hurricanes
3. Flyers
4. Islanders
5. Penguins
6. Devils
7. Capitals
8. Blue Jackets

First of all, I predict the Flyers will earn a seat in the NHL playoffs. They almost clinched a spot in the second or third spot in the Metropolitan Division for most of the year until their late-season collapse. I feel that the team will stay hungry, healthy, and will make the playoffs for the first time in years. But more on that later.

The Rangers are the class of the division and will continue to be so. They are getting older, so their window will start to close on a Stanley Cup championship. However, they have a young goalie who is one of the best in the league and a TON of firepower on offense. They will take the division rather easily and could be in play for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Carolina had a weird offseason. For the last few years, they were the best defensive unit in the league. Most of those guys are now gone. I feel that will hurt them as they didn't do much to replace them. However, Rod Brind'Amour is still a great coach and will get a lot out of his team. They will probably take the second spot.

After the first three, the Metro gets a little sticky. The Islanders are one of those teams that are good every other year. This is the "other year" when they may falter. As usual, they didn't do a lot to address any needs. Still, they are solid and pesky enough and should go back to the playoffs as a wild-card team.

A final wild card team slot could be filled by who survives out of the Penguins, Capitals, and Devils. The Pens and Caps are both getting older and are on the decline. Washington wouldn't have made it to a wild card spot last year if not for the Flyers' collapse. For these two teams, it depends on who can stay healthy. For the Devils, it's can they rebound from an injury-plagued season. If not, it's back to the basement for them.

Sadly, Columbus brings up the rear again. While this is pretty much standard for CBJ, this year's tragic loss of Johnny Gaudreau makes it harder to watch. Here in Philly, we grieve because Gaudreau was one of us, our neighbor and friend, and a great human being. We also grieve because we get it. We've been there before. Flyers Stat Leaders

Once again, Travis Konecny will lead the team in points and goals. However, I feel Owen Tippett will take the assists crown from him. Travis Sanheim will lead the team in points for the defensive unit. Garnet Hathaway will lead the team in penalty minutes. I will also take the bold stand and say that Joel Farabee and Tyson Foerster will again crack the 20-goal mark, but Matvei Michkov and Morgan Frost will join them. Tippett will break the 30-goal mark and Konecny will break 40 goals with 80 points.

Flyers Team Awards

The following Flyers will receive the following team awards:

Barry Ashbee Trophy for Best Defenseman: Travis Sanheim

Bobby Clarke Trophy for Team MVP: Travis Konecny

Yanick Dupre Memorial for Class Guy: Scott Laughton

Pelle Lindbergh Memorial for Most Improved Award:  Jamie Drysdale

Toyota Cup Game Star Selections: Travis Konecny

Gene Hart Award Work Ethic & Dedication: Noah Cates

Furthermore, I'll add that Michkov will be the runner-up for the Calder Trophy to Macklin Celebrini. I will also predict that Sam Ersson will be a top 10 finalist for the Vezina Trophy and could be an All-Star with Konecny if the Flyers get off to a hot start.
