Spencer Gill signs entry-level contract with Flyers
Spencer Gill has impressed during training camp and now has his entry-level contract.
Color the Flyers severely impressed with Spencer Gill. The young defenseman was drafted a few months ago and now has his entry-level contract in hand.
Gill was selected in the second round so the Flyers were already high on him before he even stepped on the ice for them. This shows that he has been proving them right thus far.
Before training camp, Gill participated in both development and rookie camp. He also appeared in both games in the Rookie Series against the Rangers. His best performance came in the opening game. Gill assisted on Alexis Gendron’s and made a game-saving defensive play that allowed Massimo Rizzo to tie the game late and send it to overtime.
Gill was also rewarded with a preseason appearance where he played 19:16 in the Flyers win over the Capitals. He blocked two shots in the contest.

The 18-year-old has room to grow physically and in his actual game. But John Tortorella was impressed with Gill’s game before he was sent back to juniors. And he explained things in only a way that Tortorella can.
I thought Gill had a good camp. A big, tall five-year-old that needs to grow into his body, right-handed defenseman. I thought he equipped himself very well.
Gill will return to the Rimouski Océanic for what could be his final year in juniors. In two prior seasons, he had 12 goals and 50 points. He broke out the season before his draft, collecting all of his goals and 46 of his points. He was tops in points on the Oceanic by a defenseman and also ranked tops in goals for his position as well.
Another year to fill out and grow into his body will be important to stand up to the level of professional play. Right now, Gill stands at 6'4" and weighs 185 lbs. He has the height, but he needs to bulk up and add at least 20 or more pounds during the season.
If all goes well, Gill could debut for the Phantoms at the end of the season and fight for a spot on the Flyers' backend next season.
