The Philadelphia Flyers have their slim playoff hopes kept alive
The Philadelphia Flyers are still trying hard to be a postseason team.
The Philadelphia Flyers are on life support when it comes to making it to the playoffs in 2024. They had a great start to the season and remained in a playoff spot up until the end of March.
On Thursday night, things were a little bit scary as they took on the New York Rangers who are leading the Metropolitan Division. That is not the opponent you want to see on the other side in a must-win game.
Cam York scored to make it 1-0 Flyers but things got fishy when Artemi Panarin tied it up late in the first. The second period went way better than expected though as Bobby Brink and Travis Konecny each scored to make it a 3-1 lead.
Noah Cates made it 4-1 in the third period and that remained the final score. The Flyers kept their playoff hopes alive with a big win over that good Rangers team. It was one to be proud of.

Now, they are only one point out of the playoffs as they have 85 points and the Pittsburgh Penguins have 86. The problem is that the Penguins have played one fewer game. The Washington Capitals and Detroit Red Wings each have 85 points as well and have also played one fewer game.
To say the Flyers need some help would be an understatement. They need the teams above them to do some more losing and they need to win out. They can get a maximum of 89 points so those other three teams can’t reach that total if the Flyers want to get there.
Philly's next chance to grab some points will be on Saturday evening when they take on the New Jersey Devils. The Devils aren't the team they were last year but they have played well against the Flyers this season. It will be no easy task but they need to bring that "must-win energy" again.
