The Philadelphia Flyers were on the clock following the 11th overall pick made by the San Jose Sharks. It was assumed that they would choose a defenseman with the pick but that's not what happened.

Instead, the Flyers traded down one spot with the Minnesota Wild. In return for going down one, the Flyers got a third round pick in 2025.

With the selection at 12, the Wild took Zeev Buium from the University of Denver. Buium is a wonderful defenseman and he will be great for them.

The Flyers came up on stage right after. Danny Briere called on legendary announcer Michael Buffer to make the selection. He did it just the way you'd expect.

The Philadelphia Flyers traded down one pick and took a great center

With the 13th pick in the draft, Philadelphia selected Jett Luchanko from the Guelph Storm. This is a wonderful selection for him as he is a forward that can do a lot of things well on the ice.

In 68 games played with Guelph, Luchanko scored 20 goals and added 54 assists for 74 points. He is someone who can make big-time plays to make his teammates around him better.

The Flyers continue to add good young talent to their organization. This kid will join a nice core group with players like Matvei Michkov, Owen Tippett, Bobby Brink, and Jamie Drysdale.

This was good asset management by Philadelphia. They got a player they wanted and added a third-round pick to their arsenal.

Luchanko is the type of prospect with things to work on, but his high-end playmaking ability is no denying. Those 54 assists in 68 games don't grow on trees. If he can build on that, he will be a great pro. He is also an excellent puck retriever which adds to his overall game.

It isn't the trade that most thought the Flyers would make on this night but it is a big one for them. They can only hope that Luchanko will be the dominant playmaker that he projects to be. He very well could be a top five center from this class.
