The Philadelphia Flyers have a lot of good things going for them. Some great young players are going to be fun to watch for a very long time.

Philly also has Matvei Michkov coming soon too. They selected him at seventh overall when he slipped a little bit in the 2023 NHL Draft.

The reason for his slippage wasn't because of his skills. It was simply because he was locked into his contract with the KHL's SKA St. Petersburg.

He didn't spend much time with St. Petersburg last year though as he was loaned to their development league. That was to make sure that he was in a high-octane scoring role instead of being a depth player in the KHL.

Matvei Michkov is going to be a big story in the NHL when he arrives

Now, it sounds like he might be breaking away so he can come play for the Flyers as early as next season. That would be incredible for Keith Jones, Danny Briere, John Tortorella, and the rest of the Philadelphia Flyers.

With that said, it won't be a Stanley Cup-winning move to get Michkov right away. There is a lot of other work that needs to be done.

A permanent solution to the starting goaltender role should be one of the top priorities. They also need another top-pair defenseman and some depth at forward.

It wouldn't hurt to find a way to add more high-end offensive upside to join the likes of Michkov (assuming he also becomes that).

They have a lot of very productive forwards already but calling any of them true offensive gamebreakers is a stretch.

It isn't easy to build a Stanley Cup contender but lucking into a guy like Matvei Michkov is a nice start. They just have to make sure that they put the right pieces around the kid to take that next step as an organization.
