The Philadelphia Flyers are looking for more from a lot of people in 2023-24. If everyone does what they are supposed to do, they might hold on and make the playoffs this time.
One of those players is Bobby Brink. He was a second-round pick, 34th overall, in the 2019 NHL Draft. He is an American-born forward who has a high ceiling in the NHL.
Brink played his college hockey at Denver before making his way to the NHL. He played in 10 games to close out the 2022-23 season (0-4--4) and had his official first full season in 2023-24.
He played in 57 games where he had 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points. He showed that he can make some plays but he needs more time to make them.
The Philadelphia Flyers need to play Bobby Brink more in 2024-25
He only got in those 57 games as there was an AHL stint along with some healthy scratches. He only averaged 13:48 of ice time in the NHL games he did play.
In his AHL games, he had seven goals and six assists for 13 points in 13 Lehigh Valley Phantoms games. The talent is there but he needs to show more in the NHL.
John Tortorella needs to play him more. This is a kid with incredible skills that need to develop at the world's highest level.
If the Flyers get this kid playing at a point-per-game pace (or close), that will help them win more which is exactly why teams develop talented players.
Getting him up in the lineup is important too. Some of that ice time should be coming with skilled players who can help him create offense. They have a few guys who would be perfect linemates for him.
Brink seems to have the focus needed to take that next step but he just needs to be given the ice. As he grows up, it is fair to assume that he will eventually be a high-end NHL forward.
