The Philadelphia Flyers needed a big win on Tuesday night. They were matched up against the San Jose Sharks who are one of the worst teams in the NHL. Losing this game would be a bad look for the Flyers as they try to hang onto their playoff spot.

Well, they got it done. They beat the Sharks 3-2 in Philly. Joel Farabee gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead early. Late in the first, however, Filip Zadina tied it up on the power play.

In the second period, Morgan Frost paid San Jose back with a power play goal in the first. Filip Zadina wasn’t done scoring power play goals though as he tied it back up again.

Coming into the third tied at 2, the Flyers had to be feeling some heat. Owen Tippett, who has been good all season long but in a little bit of a scoring slump, gave the Flyers a 3-2 lead in the 3rd.

The Philadelphia Flyers handled the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night

Getting a clutch goal like that from one of their best players was huge for them. Without John Tortorella behind the bench due to a suspension, it is nice to see them play well while he is away.

Another player that deserves some praise is Sam Ersson. He faced 29 shots and made 27 saves. The Flyers weren’t expecting to need a lot from him this season but that’s the situation. He has done well.

They are now in their playoff spot by four points. They need to finish strong to make it to the postseason but this was a good start. The Sharks aren’t magnificent so the Flyers needed to handle their business.

Their next game is going to be much more difficult. They will stay at home and host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night. Winning a game like that would be great for their confidence.
