The Philadelphia Flyers traded out of pick 32 in the first round
The Philadelphia Flyers made a second trade out of their pick on Friday night.
The Philadelphia Flyers kicked off their night by trading down. They moved from 12 to 13 along with adding a 2025 third-round pick.
The trade was with the Minnesota Wild who moved up one spot to select Zeev Buium from the University of Denver. Will the Flyers regret not just taking Buium one day? It is possible.
However, they came up at 13 one pick later, and took Jett Luchanko from the Guelph Storm. That is a nice playmaking forward for them to add going forward. With all of the young talent that the Flyers have, this will be great for them.
That wouldn't be the last time that Philly traded out of a pick. They also held the 32nd overall pick which was given to them by the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.
The Philadelphia Flyers made a few big moves on Friday night
The Flyers decided not to use that pick. They gave it to the team that was defeated by the Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final, the Edmonton Oilers.
They acquired a conditional first-round pick from the Edmonton Oilers in the deal. If Edmonton is as good again as they were this year, it will be around the same spot.
With that 32nd overall pick, the Oilers selected Sam O'Reilly. They are hoping that he can develop well while they continue to win at the NHL level. Most teams in the NHL are trying to get on Edmonton's level.
That concluded the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft. The Flyers will next come up to pick at 51. That is about a third through the second round which begins early on Saturday morning.
Stanley Cups are won and lost in the latter stages of the draft so you can bet that the Flyers will come in ready to go. This was a successful day for them overall as they added a first and third-round pick next year while selecting Jett Luchanko.
