The Philadelphia Flyers are a good team and they flirt with the idea of being a great team. There are times when they look like a team that can beat anybody and there are times when they look like a young team going through some growing pains.

They played a high-end Toronto Maple Leafs team on Thursday night at Wells Fargo Center. Toronto was able to get the job done on the road against this pesky Flyers team.

The Leafs got out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first period and took it into the second. Owen Tippett got on the board in the second period, however, and it felt like the Maple Leafs were going to let the Flyers back into it.

Auston Matthews wouldn’t let that happen as he scored his NHL-leading 55th goal of the season to make it 4-1 at 4:45 of the third period. Eight seconds later, William Nylander made it 5-1.

The Philadelphia Flyers didn't have a good game vs the Toronto Maple Leafs

For good measure, the Maple Leafs made a great play with the man advantage to make it 6-1. Tyson Foerster got the Flyers one back and that 6-2 score would be the final.

It’s a hard draw for the Flyers as the Leafs are now 12-3-0 in their last 15 games. Toronto is playing well against everyone and this game was no exception.

Seeing Owen Tippett on the board again was huge. His slump might officially be over as he has goals in back-to-back games. This is a very important player for the Flyers so they need him to stay consistent.

The Flyers are not safely in a playoff spot. They are going to have to do a lot of winning as the season winds down to make it but they have the coach, management, and players to finish it off.

Their next game will come on Saturday night. It will be another tough Atlantic Division test as they will be going up against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden. They will need to bring their best if they want to win.
