This Flyers division rival is actually the team to be scared of going forward
The Philadelphia Flyers are looking to continue taking steps in their development. They are a team that wants to make the postseason in 2024-25.
To do that, they are going to have to worry about their Metropolitan Division rivals. The ones that people expect to be the most worried about are the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes.
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals aren't great teams anymore but they both still have the stars that once made them contenders.
With that said, the team they might need to be the most worried about is the New Jersey Devils.
The New Jersey Devils should be on the Philadelphia Flyers' radar
New Jersey had an incredibly disappointing year in 2023-24. The Flyers finished ahead of them. It was an especially bad year for New Jersey knowing how good they were in 2023-24 when they had the third most points in the league.
They didn't get good goaltending, they had bad injury luck, and their coaching was off but they still have a lot of talent. When guys like Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier, Timo Meier, Jesper Bratt, Luke Hughes, and Dougie Hamilton amongst others are healthy and playing well, they are hard to beat.
So far this summer, we've seen them hire a head coach. Former Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe is the guy who hopes to turn them back into a winner. It seems to be a good fit.
If their GM, Tom Fitzgerald, goes out there and gets a good goalie, some depth on defense, and a little bit more toughness at forward, they will be a big-time challenge for the Flyers and the rest of the division.
Don't be fooled by their one bad season. Remember how good they can be when they are at full strength. When it comes to the Flyers and their off-season, they must pay attention to what the Devils are doing so they can be ready for it.
