It's been quite the ascend for Travis Konecny since John Tortorella took over the Flyers. He has broken out offensively and added new pieces to his game, making him an all-around player. That earned him a fresh eight-year extension at the end of July, becoming a key part of the team's future.

After the rumors of his future, it was the right call for the Flyers to make. Konecny is the prime example of a player who has thrived with the new coaching. He took his lumps early on and became better from it.

And now he's getting praise elsewhere about his recent play. NHL Network recently released their ranking of the top 20 wingers in the NHL right now. There is a new name on the list.

Travis Konecny earns a spot as one of the NHL's top wingers

Konecny made the cut this season after failing to make it last season. Considering he only improved his goal total by two and added seven more points, it's fair to wonder if he should've made the list last year. Nonetheless, Konecny debuts as one of the top wingers and beat out some big names.

Chris Kreider had his best season, goal-wise, at 33-years-old. He posted 39 goals and 75 points, both higher totals than Konecny. But his name did not make the final list. Jesper Bratt finished with a career-high 83 points, 10 more than his best from last season. Brock Boeser broke out for 40 goals and 73 points, smashing his highs by a long shot.

As for Konecny, he reached the 30-goal plateau for the second straight season and nearly broke the 70-point mark for the first time in his career. He produced on both power play and penalty kill, the latter a role he is only in his second season playing. Konecny led the league with six shorthanded goals and was second behind teammate Scott Laughton with seven shorthanded points.

Beating out players who produced more goals or points is a big accomplishment. While it's only one list, it has to feel good for Konecny to earn some recognition for his play. The Flyers' All-Star has plenty to live up to, especially after signing the lengthy extension.

But based on his play the last two seasons, he is in a good position to do so.
