The Buffalo Sabres might be seeing some roster turnover after their disappointing 2023-24 season. They were supposed to take a big step forward but stepped back just a little bit.
It is expected that they will be a good team in 2024-25 but how good? Can they finally end their decade-plus-long playoff drought? Only time will tell.
The Philadelphia Flyers might be able to take a few players off their hands if they decide to let them leave in Buffalo.
We already heard about how Victor Olofsson is someone that makes great sense for the Flyers but he isn't the only Sabres player to be thinking about.
The Flyers are looking to make their team better ahead of 2024-25
Zemgus Girgensons is going to be an unrestricted free agent looking for a new home this summer as well. He is sure to test the market as a 30-year-old.
He would bring some great veteran presence to a Flyers team that has some great talent. There is a lot of youth coming through this Flyers organization so a player like Girgensons would bring great veteran leadership.
The guy can also play hockey well too in a bottom-six role. He defends well but he provides a little bit of offense as well. In. 2023-24, he scored eight goals and had six assists for 14 points in 63 games played.
If he were on the Flyers' fourth line bringing that type of production, they'd be very happy with him. He won't cost much and he will help them both on and off the ice.
Girgensons is looking to win. He has played all 10 years of his NHL career with the Buffalo Sabres and none of them ended in the postseason. He has seen a few different rebuilds have a ton of good players come through but it never led to winning.
If he came to the Flyers, they'd be a far from perfect team but they came so close to being a playoff team this season and fully expect to be next year.
This isn't a player that moves the needle but you need good depth to be a good team. Zemgus Girgensons is a guy who can bring that.
