The Philadelphia Flyers were one of the top three teams in the Metropolitan Division last season for most of the year.

At the end of the year, however, they fell below the playoff line and had a disappointing finish to the season that started so well for them.

Now, the Flyers are going to do what they can to take a step during the summer. They want to return in 2024-25 with a chance to redeem themselves for their bad ending.

There are a lot of free agents that they will consider. Could one of them be Steven Stamkos who is an all-time NHL star?

The Philadelphia Flyers should consider Steven Stamkos this summer

Stamkos will be a first-ballot Hall of Fame player when he retires. As it stands right now, Stamkos has 555 goals and 582 assists for 1137 points in 1082 games.

He also has two Stanley Cups, two Rocket Richards, and has been an All-Star many times in his career. For missing some time due to injury early in his career, his numbers still reached incredible heights and he's not done.

His contract with the Lightning will expire on July 1st. If he doesn't have an extension done by then, he is free to sign with whatever team he wants.

Would the Flyers be a team that Stamkos considers? It is hard to see it but the Flyers would be able to offer him a nice contract. This won't be as big of a number as he got last time but Stamkos is still worth a fair amount.

He scored 40 goals and had 41 assists for 81 points in 79 games played this year. That's not bad for being 33/34 years old. He still has 3 or 4 more great years of hockey left. We'll see if he can continue cracking 40 goals.

The Flyers would also be gaining a player with tons of great experience. He can help both on and off the ice as they look to develop back into a contender. Stamkos watch is officially underway. If he leaves Tampa, that will shake up the NHL world.
