Philadelphia is always the underdog...until they're not

“The Philadelphia Flyers have made it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs…”

That sentence was finally cheered around the city after six long years of coming up short. While many believe this offseason is about important trades and continuing to rebuild, it’s truly about finishing the battle this team started last season.

Time and time again, the city of Philadelphia is doubted and counted out, just the way they like it. However, the Flyers' spark was reignited with their new additions last season and the young blood fueling the engine into the postseason. The time for rebuilding is over, and the fans have bought into the fire, fight, and chemistry tearing up the ice.

The Heart

New players such as Dan Vladar and Porter Martone have already made their mark on the stat sheet and on the hearts of the fans of Philadelphia.

“Oh my god, this is awesome; this is why you play hockey…We are so proud to help them deliver that experience. And I can assure our fans that we are going to do everything we can to make it as far as we can.” Vladar said after the Flyers clinched.

His words after such a short time in Philly show his devotion to the team and the city surrounding him, as he proves he is playing for a higher purpose than himself. Vladar’s grit and relentlessness are the qualities necessary to hoist a Stanley Cup against all odds.

Martone left fans feeling hopeful after becoming a key part in their postseason success.

“I want to be a leader…show the younger prospects what it means to play for the Flyers…It’s valuable to be back in Philly despite already playing NHL games.” Martone shared duringDevelopmental Camp this year

Having not played a full season in his career yet, at just 19 years old, Martone is already looking to speak life into the younger players and create that close-knit team dynamic needed to secure a Stanley Cup.

The Team

Something that the Flyers lacked for years was team chemistry that elevates teams to the top. In the 2025-2026 season, the energy and chemistry were palpable and were a main contributor to their success as veterans and rookies blended.

This plays a crucial part in the team’s redemption road back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs and, hopefully, into the Stanley Cup Final. While physical ability plays a major part in team success, teams being in sync with each other is equally important.

The Trading Triangle

As we enter the peak of the offseason, the Flyers are starting to make their moves. So far, they have traded forward Garnet Hathaway and a 2026 sixth-round pick for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 fourth-round pick. They also retained half of Hathaway’s 2.4M salary. The Flyers also traded for goalie Joseph Woll and defenseman Simon Benoit from Toronto in exchange for Samuel Ersson, Emil Andrae, and a 2026 third-round pick.

In free agency, they didn't make any big moves yet, bringing in Noel Acciari to add some depth to the bottom of their lineup. Most other moves were made to address the Phantoms' need for depth as well.

The Flyers have everything they need to make it to the final dance. Whether they get there or not, is up to them this year. However, if any bets were made on what team could succeed on their heart and grit alone, it would be the Philadelphia Flyers.
