The Philadelphia Flyers took a chance on Trevor Zegras, whose career was floundering with the Anaheim Ducks. The hope for the Flyers was that a change of scenery would help, and that they'd get a top scoring forward in return. So far, Zegras has been everything the Flyers have hoped for.
On Tuesday, Zegras had his first chance at revenge against his former team. Zegras had a tremendous performance, scoring two goals in the first period in less than five minutes. Zegras also dished out an assist in Philadelphia's huge 5-2 victory over Anaheim.
After the game, Zegras was interviewed by former Flyers player Scott Hartnell, who asked the forward what it was like to score two goals against the team "that might have given up on [him]." Zegras emphatically said it felt, "f**king amazing."

Normally, players will try and have a more muted response when asked about scoring against their former team. Zegras didn't hold back his emotions, discussing how great it felt to score two goals against the team that moved on from him.
Zegras spent the beginning of his career with the Ducks, the team that selected him in the first-round of the 2019 NHL Draft. The forward really shined after his rookie season. In the 2021-22 season, Zegras put up 23 goals and 38 assists through 75 games. The following season, Zegras scored 23 goals and recorded 42 assists through 81 games. These occurred while Zegras played at center.
Zegras' production took a hit after. There was a lingering contract situation. There were the injuries. Then, there was head coach Greg Cronin, who replaced Dallas Eakins. One of the main changes to Zegras' game in Anaheim was that Cronin moved him from center to the wing. Zegras noted that the changes affected his mental health, citing that he didn't feel the Ducks believed in him.
"The last thing I was thinking about was actually playing hockey at times. That was hard for me. And then you throw in the injuries and then the rehab and the recovery and then getting back to, I guess, the place that you were before. Little things become big things in your head, and it makes it very hard to play against the best players in the world on a night-to-night basis," Zegras said, h/t ESPN's Greg Whyshynski.
"It almost felt like you were alone, when they didn't believe in you."
With the Ducks looking to move on from Zegras, the Flyers gave a call and finalized a trade. Zegras headed to Philadelphia in exchange for Ryan Poehling, a second round pick in 2025 and a fourth-round pick in 2026. That move has paid off for both the Flyers and Zegras.
Zegras is the Flyers' top scorer, especially with Tyson Foerster out for the season due to an arm injury. Through 41 games this season, Zegras scored 17 goals and recorded 24 assists, both of which lead the Flyers. His production has helped play a role in the Flyers' success this season, as they hold a 22-12-7 record for 51 points through 41 games, good enough for third place in the Metropolitan Division.
Zegras continues to be a huge bright spot for a Flyers team that's needed star power in recent years. Now, fans got to see him gleefully take revenge against the team that gave up on him.
